XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

The A3 Sportback 8V’s multi-link rear axle – fitted to the multi-link derivatives rather than the torsion-beam base cars – gives this MQB-platform hatch independent rear wheel control that a coilover kit can actually use. On a beam-axle A3 a stiffer spring just fights the axle; on this chassis it lets the rear end track load changes properly, which is exactly what the Top Sport spec is built to exploit.

This is XYZ Racing’s occasional-track-day kit rather than a full race set-up: enough adjustment to sharpen a fast-road A3 for a handful of trackdays a year without turning the daily commute into a chore. It’s built specifically for this 2012-2020 A3 Sportback, using the modified rear integrated mounting this chassis requires.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 Sportback

Step up from the factory spring and damper rates and the nose-heavy MQB layout stops diving under braking into a corner, holding the front tyres flatter for longer through the apex. The 30-50% increase in damping force, or roughly 2kg/mm on the spring rate over standard street settings, means big compressions – a kerbed apex, a motorway expansion joint taken at speed – get absorbed rather than kicked back through the chassis, keeping the body settled instead of pattering. Less vertical movement at the contact patch means both axles put more of their available grip into cornering force rather than soaking up bump energy, so traction improves along with body control. On the multi-link rear specifically, a settled body keeps the rear geometry where it should be under load, so the back end follows the front through a bumpy mid-corner rather than stepping wide. Ride height is adjustable too, so the stance can drop to match the sharper handling without resorting to cut springs.

About the Top Sport coilover

Top Sport sits between a fast-road spring-and-damper upgrade and a dedicated track-only set-up, built around the damping and spring-rate figures XYZ Racing’s own track programme settled on for cars that still need to drive home afterwards. Damping force is raised 30-50% over street settings, with spring rate lifted by around 2kg/mm, so the kit resists body roll and dive without the harshness a full race set-up would bring to a car doing motorway miles between trackdays. Valving is tuned to soak up the mid-corner ruts and expansion joints that unsettle a stock A3, suppressing body movement rather than transmitting it into the cabin, and the added spring rate keeps the tyre working the road surface instead of skipping over it. It’s aimed at drivers doing genuinely aggressive road driving plus the occasional circuit day, not a car built to live on a trailer.

Fitment for the Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V φ55 (Rr Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rr Integrated (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the A3 Sportback 8V generation (chassis AU12-8), 2012 to 2020, specifically the multi-link rear axle cars rather than the torsion-beam version – check which rear suspension your A3 has before ordering. The rear shock mounting uses the modified integrated set-up this chassis requires, so it’s matched to this exact 8V Sportback rather than the saloon or Cabriolet derivatives.
