XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Audi A3 8V Φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated (Cancellation Kit forElectronic Damping) 2012-2020

Gravel stages don’t care that the A3 8V left the factory with electronic adaptive damping. Ruts, compression jumps and mid-corner washboard hit the multi-link rear axle at a rate the standard magnetic-ride system was never calibrated to survive, and on cars built with that electronic damper control still wired in, any passive coilover swap needs a proper cancellation kit rather than a bodge. This Gravel Rally kit is built specifically for the 8V’s Φ55 strut diameter and rear multi-link geometry, with the electronic damping circuit integrated out cleanly so the passive dampers take over full control front and rear.

It’s aimed squarely at gravel-stage rally and rallycross use, not fast-road duty. That means long-travel dampers built to shrug off repeated big hits rather than optimise for tarmac roll control, and a spring and valving package chosen for a car that’s going to land, not just corner.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3

On loose surfaces the A3 8V’s front-heavy MQB layout wants to dive and unsettle the rear under braking into a compression, and the long-stroke damper construction here is built to absorb that chassis vibration before it translates into a step-off at the back axle. The extended spring length keeps the wheel loaded through ruts and off-camber sections where a shorter-travel road setup would top out and skip. Because the kit is matched to the Φ55 strut and multi-link rear specifically, geometry stays correct through the travel range rather than drifting as the suspension compresses hard over a jump. Spring rates are set up to take extreme cornering loads without the rear stepping out unpredictably on a loose surface, which matters more on an 8V than most road-biased chassis because the standard car was never set up to take a G-force spike sideways on gravel.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ’s Gravel Rally line uses an inverted tube damper design specifically because gravel, rallycross and stage surfaces vary wildly within a single run – sand, snow, silt, hardpack – and the inverted layout holds up better against the contamination and side-loading each of those throws at the damper body. Stroke and spring length are both extended well beyond a road or track coilover to absorb chassis vibration and take the repeated high-speed impacts of a bouncy stage without bottoming out. That length also has to deal with genuinely extreme cornering G-force rather than the steadier loads of tarmac driving. Every spring rate in the range has been set through actual rally racing team testing rather than bench figures alone, which is the difference between a kit that survives one event and one that’s actually built for the discipline.

Fitment for the Audi A3 (2012-2020)

Built for the Audi A3 8V fitted with the Φ55 rear multi-link suspension, specifically the variant originally equipped with electronic adaptive damping – this kit includes the cancellation setup needed to run passive dampers on that chassis. Confirm your 8V falls within the 2012-2020 production span and carries the multi-link rear (not the torsion-beam variant) before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Iron top mountIronIRONIron upper mount — a heavy-duty housing built to take sustained load where a stronger top mount is required.
