XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Audi A3 8V Φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated 2012-2020

The A3 8V’s multi-link rear axle – fitted to the quattro-based cars in this range, not the torsion-beam set-up on the front-drive versions – already carries more of the cornering load than most hatchback owners expect, and it’s the axle that shows up any mismatch between spring rate and damping first. XYZ Racing’s Top Sport coilover is built around that reality: a road-biased base rate lifted by 30-50% in damping and roughly 2kg/mm in spring rate, aimed at cars that see a track day a few times a year but still have to cover the daily commute in between.

It’s a kit for owners who want the A3 to stop rolling into a corner and start rotating, without turning the car into something you dread driving to the circuit in.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3

With the multi-link rear axle running a firmer spring rate, the A3 stops squatting under power out of slow corners and holds its line through direction changes – the rear stays planted instead of stepping wide when you lift mid-corner. The raised damping force controls that stiffer spring without turning every expansion joint into a jolt through the seat; the kit is set up to take the edge off big single hits – potholes, kerb strikes – while still telling you what the rear tyres are doing on turn-in. That control also feeds tyre traction: suppressing the shock body’s own movement keeps more of the contact patch loaded on rough surfaces instead of skipping. Front-end response sharpens too – less dive under braking means the front tyres load progressively rather than all at once, which matters on an A3 you’re braking hard and often on track. Height is adjustable at all four corners, so ride height and corner balance can be set independently of spring preload once you’ve weighed the car and want to trim front-to-rear bias to how you actually drive it.

About the Top Sport coilover

Top Sport is XYZ Racing’s step up from street-only settings, built from damping and spring data drawn from the brand’s own track programme rather than a generic road tune. Spring rates run roughly 2kg/mm firmer than the street-oriented kits in the range, and damping force is raised by 30-50% over the same baseline – enough to control body movement on track without a full round of clicker adjustment mid-session. The construction targets the two extremes a fast-road-and-track car actually sees: high-frequency surface noise (broken tarmac, motorway expansion joints) and the big isolated hits from kerbs or potholes, without the shock body losing composure between them. That combination is what XYZ Racing built the Top Sport line around – controlled body movement and tyre contact-patch stability under aggressive driving, on track or on a hard back-road run. It’s the setting built for drivers who want one kit that covers both, rather than swapping dampers between road and track use.

Fitment for the Audi A3 (2012-2020)

This kit is specced for the Audi A3 8V generation built between 2012 and 2020, specifically the version running the multi-link rear suspension (chassis reference AU12-5) with the modified rear shock-mount integration required for coilover fitment on this platform. Confirm your A3 uses the multi-link rear axle – not the torsion-beam set-up fitted to some trims in this generation – before ordering.
