XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD φ55 (Modified Rear Integrated) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2008-2012

The Golf Mk6 4WD runs a Haldex-coupled all-wheel-drive system that shunts torque rearward the instant the front axle starts to slip, which on a rough tarmac stage means the rear end is working almost as hard as the front. Stock Golf R dampers are electronically adaptive (DCC), tuned for road comfort and the odd B-road blast, not for a car crossing broken surfaces, cattle grids and mid-corner camber changes at stage pace. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover for the Mk6 4WD comes with the cancellation kit built in, so the factory electronic damping control is taken out of the loop and the car runs purely on the mechanical valving XYZ has set for rally use.

That matters because a Golf running φ55 struts is carrying a heavier-duty piston and body than the standard fitment, sized specifically for the repeated big hits this platform sees on sealed-stage work. Combined with the modified rear-integrated mounting for this chassis, the kit is built to keep the Golf’s rear multi-link geometry working correctly once the factory adaptive units are gone.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD

Fitted to a 2008-2012 Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD, this coilover changes how the car deals with the broken surfaces a stage throws at it. The larger φ55 piston diameter gives the damper more oil volume to work with, which matters when you’re absorbing jolt after jolt without the valving overheating or fading mid-stage. That control keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded through compressions and crests instead of skipping across them, which on a Haldex 4WD car directly affects how much drive the rear axle can actually put down. The rear-integrated mounting is matched to the Mk6’s multi-link rear end, so ride height and geometry stay correct once the OE adaptive dampers are cancelled out. The result is a chassis that settles quicker after a hit and holds its line through the next one, rather than still recovering from the last.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line specifically to deal with uneven, broken pavement rather than a smooth circuit surface. The damper is valved to soak up hard, sudden impacts – kerbs, potholes, cattle grids, mid-corner ridges – and dissipate that energy through the shock body rather than passing it straight into the chassis and the tyre. That’s a different job to a track coilover: here the priority is keeping the tyre’s contact patch planted through repeated big hits so traction doesn’t drop out mid-corner. The valving and spring rates on this kit come directly from XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, carried over from stage-car development rather than derived from a generic road-going base setting. On a 4WD platform like the Golf Mk6, that stability is what lets the drivetrain put its torque split down cleanly instead of fighting a chassis that’s still reacting to the last compression.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD (2008-2012)

This kit is built for the Volkswagen Golf Mk6 4WD, chassis code VO20-A-C, covering the 2008 to 2012 production run with φ55-diameter struts and the modified rear-integrated mounting for this specific drivetrain layout. Because this variant carries the cancellation kit for the factory electronic damping (DCC), confirm your car has the adaptive-damper option fitted from the factory before ordering – this kit is designed to replace that system, not run alongside it.
