XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Tesla MODEL 3 (4WD) 2017-2024

The Model 3’s dual-motor layout puts a genuinely heavy underfloor battery low in the chassis, and that mass has to be controlled through every crest, compression and camber change on a closed tarmac stage. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built around damper settings drawn from XYZ’s own stage experience, tuned to absorb the impact of broken and uneven road surfaces rather than the smooth circuit tarmac a standard track coilover expects.

For a 2017-2024 Model 3 (4WD) running sealed-stage events, that means a damper that can soak up a big hit without kicking the body sideways, then settle again in time for the next braking zone. Instant torque from twin motors loads the front axle differently to a combustion car accelerating out of a hairpin, and rally-spec damping is what keeps that load planted instead of skating.

What this coilover does for your 2017-2024 Tesla Model 3

Stage surfaces move around under a car in ways a smooth road never does, and the biggest benefit here is body control over that movement. The damper absorbs the jolt from a large mid-corner bump rather than transmitting it straight into the chassis, which keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded and traction intact instead of the wheel skipping across the surface. That matters more on a Model 3 than on most cars in this category: kerb weight sits well over 1.8 tonnes once the battery pack is accounted for, so both unsprung mass and body mass need controlling through the same stroke. Suppressing shock transfer through rough sections keeps the nose settled under trail-braking and stops the tail stepping out when the twin motors put power down out of a slow corner. The net effect on stage is a car that stays composed over broken tarmac instead of ballooning into a pogo over successive hits.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally coilover specifically for sealed-stage rally work, where the road surface is asphalt but rarely smooth asphalt. Patched sections, camber changes and mid-corner bumps are the norm rather than the exception. The damper is calibrated to soak up impacts from big bumps without the body kicking or the wheel losing contact, which is a different brief to a circuit track coilover tuned around consistent, predictable surfaces. Construction follows XYZ’s usual coilover format, height-adjustable so ride height can be set for stage clearance rather than pure aesthetics, with damping settings carried over from XYZ’s own tarmac rally racing programme rather than derived on a rig. The stated aim is stability that holds through repeated hits over a stage rather than a single clean lap, so the valving favours composure under successive inputs over outright stiffness. On a heavy, torque-rich platform like the Model 3, that rally-derived calibration is doing more work than it would on a lighter combustion car, because there’s more mass for the damper to keep in check on every compression.

Fitment for the Tesla MODEL 3 (4WD) (2017-2024)

This kit is built for the Tesla Model 3 (4WD), chassis code TE02, covering the 2017 to 2024 model years. It’s specific to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant of the Model 3 rather than the single-motor rear-drive car, so confirm your car is the AWD version before ordering.
