XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Subaru LEGACY BE/BH 4WD 1999-2003

The BE/BH Legacy’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive layout carries its boxer engine low but pushes noticeable weight over the front axle, and on gravel, snow or forestry-stage surfaces that imbalance shows up as understeer and unpredictable weight transfer the moment you’re back on the throttle mid-corner. XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover for the Subaru Legacy BE/BH 4WD (1999-2003) runs longer front and rear stroke than a circuit-only kit, giving the axles more room to move before they run out of travel over ruts, compressions and braking bumps on loose ground.

It’s built for rally and rallycross use rather than tarmac trackdays. Three external adjustment knobs let you tune compression and rebound separately for the terrain in front of you, and a larger internal oil and nitrogen reservoir is there to stop the shock cooking itself over a long stage. On a Legacy running loose-surface events, that reserve capacity is what separates consistent damping at the finish from fade three stages in.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2003 Subaru Legacy BE/BH 4WD

Fitted to a BE/BH, the extended stroke keeps the tyres in contact with the ground through the compressions and crests a gravel or snow stage throws up far more often than a paved circuit does, so the AWD system has traction to actually put down rather than wheels skipping over broken surface. The larger oil and gas volume matters on a car this size – the Legacy’s weight and the boxer engine’s mass over the front axle both load the front dampers hard under braking into a compression, and keeping shock temperature under control stops the damping going soft as the run continues. Three-way adjustment lets you set compression and rebound apart to match a snow stage’s soft, absorbing needs against a gravel stage’s sharper, higher-frequency inputs, without swapping dampers between events. Some mechanical noise from the small-bore oil passages at the knobs is normal under hard hits and isn’t a fault – it’s the trade-off for the fine low-speed control the design gives you.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow line specifically for rally and rallycross rather than adapting a circuit damper with softer springs. Both front and rear units run noticeably longer travel than the road or track ranges in the catalogue, which is what lets the suspension absorb a big compression or landing without bottoming out and unsettling the car mid-stage. The internal reservoir holds a larger volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than a standard damper, and that extra capacity is the main defence against oil temperature climbing too high over a long run – overheated oil is what causes damping to fall away right when you need it most. Control comes from three external adjustment knobs feeding oil through deliberately small internal passages, a design that puts precise low-speed damping ahead of outright quietness; a bit of audible clatter through the roughest sections is a known, expected characteristic of that setup rather than a defect. The result is a damper built to keep working through repeated heavy hits rather than one tuned for the smooth, high-grip surface of a circuit.

Fitment for the Subaru Legacy BE/BH 4WD (1999-2003)

This kit is built for the Subaru Legacy BE/BH in 4WD form, chassis code SU15, spanning the 1999 to 2003 model years. Check your logbook against the BE/BH chassis code and confirm 4WD drivetrain before ordering, as the BE/BH generation covers more than one Legacy body variant.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
