XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan SKYLINE R32 BNR32 4WD 1989-1994

The BNR32’s ATTESA E-TS system was built to put RB26 power down on tarmac, but point that same all-wheel-drive layout at a loose gravel stage and the standard dampers run out of ideas fast. Compression stroke gets eaten up by compound bumps and washouts before the tyre ever finishes loading, and the car skates rather than digs. The Gravel Rally coilover is built around that specific failure point.

This is a long-travel, inverted-tube damper aimed squarely at gravel-stage and rallycross use on the R32 Skyline, not a road-biased kit wearing a rally label. It exists to keep the wheel working through the kind of terrain that would knock a circuit-spec setup out of its stroke within a few hundred metres.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1994 Nissan Skyline R32 Bnr32 4WD

On loose surfaces the biggest threat to a 4WD platform like the BNR32 isn’t outright grip, it’s consistency of grip as the surface changes under the car. The long stroke and long spring here give the axle more room to move before the damper tops or bottoms out, which matters when one wheel is in a rut and the other is on a crown. The inverted-tube construction is there to cope with the abuse of sandstone, snow or silt getting thrown at the shock body, rather than the relatively clean environment a tarmac car sees. Chassis vibration from washboard gravel gets absorbed at the damper instead of being fed straight into the BNR32’s subframe and diff mounts, and the setup is built to bear the extreme G-force loading a fast stage corner puts through the ATTESA driveline. The result on your Skyline is a car that keeps its wheels in contact with the ground over broken surfaces instead of skating over the top of them.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road conditions are the most aggressive a competition car will face. The inverted-tube design is a direct response to that environment, keeping contamination and impact damage away from the working shock rod in a way a standard tube layout struggles with. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond a circuit-spec unit so the damper has somewhere to go when a compound bump or a sudden dip tries to use up its travel in one hit. That extra travel is what lets the shock absorb chassis vibration rather than transmit it, and what lets it survive repeated high-speed impacts on bouncy, uneven ground without packing down. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set using data from an actual rally racing team running the parts on stage, not derived from road or track testing and adapted afterwards.

Fitment for the Nissan Skyline R32 (1989-1994)

This kit is built for the Nissan Skyline R32 BNR32, chassis code NI37, covering the 1989 to 1994 production run of the 4WD ATTESA E-TS platform. Confirm your car is the BNR32 4WD variant rather than a two-wheel-drive R32 Skyline before ordering, as the driveline and subframe geometry differ between them.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
