XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Nissan SKYLINE R32 BNR32 4WD 1989-1994

The R32 Skyline GT-R’s ATTESA E-TS system fires torque forward to the front differential the moment the rear tyres start to slip, and that shift in load happens mid-corner on a rally stage as often as it does out of one. A soft, poorly damped rear end turns that torque transfer into a lurch instead of a clean pivot, and on a sealed tarmac stage with blind crests and off-camber hairpins, that lurch is the difference between staying on the road and finding the ditch.

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built for exactly that scenario: sealed-stage work where the car needs to absorb a rough surface change at speed without unsettling the chassis, then recover instantly for the next direction change. It’s the spec for BNR32 owners running stage rallies or fast tarmac events rather than circuit track days, where controlling the AWD system’s weight transfer matters more than outright lap time.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1994 Nissan Skyline R32 Bnr32 4WD

Fitted to a BNR32, this kit gives you control over how the chassis absorbs the hit from a compression or a rough stage edge without kicking the rear out of line – useful on a car whose ATTESA hardware and RB26 lump already add weight over the front axle that a soft factory strut can’t manage at rally pace. The tarmac-rally tune is set up to suppress body shock through a big hit, so the tyre keeps its footprint on the road instead of skipping, which on a 4WD platform translates directly into how much of that torque transfer actually reaches the tarmac. Ride height and preload adjustment let you correct the nose-heavy stance that comes from the RB26DETT and front diff, restoring the balance the ATTESA system needs to send power forward predictably. Where the standard R32 GT-R strut wallows through a stage’s mid-corner bumps, this coilover keeps the platform flat enough that the HICAS rear steering is working with a settled chassis rather than one still recovering from the last compression.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally coilover specifically to cope with the punishment of a sealed-surface stage – broken tarmac edges, mid-corner ruts, and the kind of big, unpredictable hit that a circuit damper is never asked to deal with. The valving is set to absorb that impact directly rather than transmit it through the chassis, which suppresses the shock loading through the body and keeps the tyre’s contact patch working instead of skating across the surface after a bump. That grip retention under a hard hit is the point of the spec: XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme shaped every setting in this damper, so the compression and rebound curves reflect what actually happens to a car crossing a rough stage at speed rather than a generic fast-road tune. The result, on the right chassis, is stability through the kind of surface change that would otherwise pitch a softer setup off line, letting the driver hold a line through the rough stuff instead of fighting it.
