XYZ Racing Drag Racing Coilovers — Nissan MAXIMA A31 (OE Rear WISHBONE) 1989-1994

The A31 Maxima’s independent rear wishbone set-up was tuned for a comfortable saloon ride, not for hooking up off the line. Under full-throttle launch the rear end unloads at the exact moment you need the tyres loaded, and that’s the problem XYZ Racing’s Drag Racing coilovers are built to solve on this platform.

Rather than a spring and damper compromise shared with fast-road or circuit kits, this is a launch-specific set-up for the 1989-1994 Maxima A31: valving and spring rates chosen to shift weight onto the driven wheels the instant power goes down, and hold that bias through the run rather than settling back to a comfort ride height.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1994 Nissan Maxima A31

Fitted to the A31’s OE rear wishbone geometry, this kit lets you set ride height independently front and rear to load the rear tyres for launch without raising the whole car. The spring and damping combination is tuned to transfer weight rearward the moment you release the clutch or the torque converter locks up, forcing the rear tyres into greater compression against the strip rather than letting the suspension absorb that load as travel. That cuts the time the driven wheels spend spinning free before they bite, which is where a poorly controlled Maxima loses tenths at the top end of first gear. Corner-weighting the rear via the height adjusters also settles the car’s stability once it’s moving, instead of hunting for grip as the suspension settles mid-run.

About the Drag Racing coilover

XYZ Racing’s Drag Racing coilover is built specifically for 0-400 metre drag work, not adapted from a road or track platform, and the same architecture is offered across FWD, RWD and 4WD applications. The core idea is controlling how quickly the car’s weight moves from front to rear the instant the driveline takes load: rather than letting the chassis settle into that transfer over a few tenths of a second, the spring rates and damping curve force it to happen almost immediately, so the tyre gets more contact-patch compression sooner. Less time spent with the driven wheel unloaded means less idle spin and a more stable car once it’s rolling at speed. For the rear-wishbone A31 Maxima that means the kit is doing the geometry-control job the factory suspension was never set up to do under a hard launch.

Fitment for the Nissan Maxima A31 (OE Rr Wishbone) (1989-1994)

This kit is built for the Nissan Maxima A31 fitted with the original equipment rear wishbone suspension, chassis code NI05, covering the 1989 to 1994 model years. Confirm your car retains the OE rear wishbone set-up before ordering, as A31-generation Maxima variants were sold with different rear suspension layouts across markets.

Spec your A31 Maxima’s Drag Racing coilover set-up and configure yours below.

The coilovers are specially designed for 0~400 drag racing such as FWD, RWD or 4WD models. The setting allows vehicle to change the front and rear weight according to the transmission wheel in instant driving, and force the transmission tire having greater compression, which can reduce the idle time of wheel and improve the stability of the vehicle under high speed.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
