XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi EVO7-9 4WD 2002-2008

Rally stages don’t punish a damper the way a circuit does – they destroy it. The Mitsubishi EVO7-9’s MT19 chassis puts its 4WD hardware and turbocharged weight low and central, but on loose gravel that mass keeps moving after the wheel has already found the next compression. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built around that specific problem: repeated, violent inputs at speeds a Tarmac-tuned strut would never see.

This isn’t a fast-road spring-and-shock upgrade dressed up in rally branding. It’s a damper designed from the inverted-tube up for sandstone, snow and silt, and it’s going under a car whose factory AYC and ACD systems already expect the chassis to stay composed through exactly this kind of abuse.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2008 Mitsubishi EVO7-9 4WD

The long-stroke, long-spring configuration gives the EVO7-9 the wheel travel gravel driving actually demands – enough to absorb chassis vibration from a rutted stage without the suspension packing down and transmitting every impact straight into the shell. Under hard cornering, where the EVO’s rear subframe and diff mounts already work hard to keep the 4WD system’s torque split usable, the extended stroke keeps a tyre in contact with the ground through compressions that would otherwise unload it. High-speed bouncy sections – the kind that batter a standard damper into fade within a few stages – are met with a design built to bear extreme G-force repeatedly rather than once. The result on the MT19 chassis is a car that keeps its wheels working through the terrain instead of skipping across it.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally around the reality that rallycross and gravel-stage surfaces are the most aggressive a damper will ever face – worse than any circuit, because the road condition itself never repeats. The inverted-tube shock body is a direct response to that variability, giving it a construction that copes with sandstone, snow and silt without the internal wear a conventional tube design would suffer. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond road-going coilover norms specifically to absorb chassis vibration and cope with aggressive impacts from high-speed bouncy roads, and to bear the extreme G-forces generated when the car turns in on loose surfaces. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set and validated by a rally racing team rather than derived from road-car data, so the baseline is already calibrated for stage conditions rather than needing to be worked out from scratch.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi EVO7-9 4WD (2002-2008)

Built for the MT19 chassis code covering the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII through IX, 4WD, produced 2002 to 2008. Confirm your build year falls within this span before ordering, as suspension geometry and mounting points are matched to this specific generation.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
