XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Mitsubishi EVO1-3 4WD 1992-1996

The Evo1-3’s entire reason for existing was gravel and snow. Mitsubishi built the car to win the World Rally Championship’s Group A category over loose surfaces, and the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover for the Mitsubishi Evo1-3 4WD (1992-1996) is built for exactly that heritage. Where a circuit-spec coilover chases minimal ride height and stiff low-speed damping, this kit runs longer travel front and rear specifically so the 4WD chassis can absorb the compression spikes of rutted gravel and packed snow without bottoming out.

It’s the right call for anyone campaigning an Evo1-3 in rallycross, forest stages, or winter events rather than tarmac track days – the extended stroke and larger damper reservoir are there to keep the shock working consistently over a full stage, not just a fast lap.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1996 Mitsubishi EVO1-3 4WD

Extra suspension travel front and rear means the Evo1-3’s suspension can follow the terrain instead of transmitting every crest and compression straight into the chassis – critical on an early Evo where the factory geometry was never designed for the loads a modern gravel stage puts through it. The enlarged suspension oil and nitrogen gas capacity keeps damping force consistent as the shock heats up over a long stage, so the car doesn’t go soft or vague on the last kilometre the way an undersized damper would. Three external adjustment knobs let you retune compression and rebound between a fast, dry gravel road and a slushy snow stage without pulling the dampers off the car, which matters on an Evo1-3 where the 4WD system already asks a lot of the suspension to put power down on loose surfaces.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

This is XYZ Racing’s rally and rallycross damper, not a repurposed circuit unit – the longer front and rear travel is a deliberate design choice to give the car a bigger buffer against the compression spikes that gravel and snow throw at a suspension. Internally it carries a larger charge of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than a tarmac-focused coilover, which is what stops shock oil temperature climbing to the point of exhaustion over a long stage or repeated rallycross runs. Adjustment comes through three external knobs, and because the internal oil passages are sized small to make that fine adjustment possible, you may hear a faint noise from the damper when it’s working hard over big bumps – that’s the oil moving through the passage, not a fault, and it’s normal for a coilover built to run on this kind of terrain.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi EVO1-3 4WD (1992-1996)

Built specifically for the 4WD Mitsubishi Evo1-3, chassis code MT17, covering the full 1992 to 1996 production run. Front and rear travel is matched to this generation’s suspension geometry, so confirm your car sits within this year range before ordering, as later Evo generations use different mounting points.

If you’re building an Evo1-3 for gravel, snow, or rallycross rather than tarmac, this is the coilover spec to start from – configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
