XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mitsubishi EVO1-3 4WD 1992-1996

The MT17-generation Evo1-3 arrived as a homologation special, and its 4WD system puts a very different load through the corners than a two-wheel-drive rally rival – power is being split fore and aft as well as side to side under yaw, so the springs and dampers have to manage a heavier, more complex chassis without going soft mid-corner. XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec coilover is built for exactly that brief.

This is the range’s committed track option, not a fast-road compromise. It exists for owners running time-attack, sprint or circuit events in an Evo1-3, where the damper has to hold its settings consistently through a full session rather than just a spirited b-road drive.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1996 Mitsubishi EVO1-3 4WD

On the 4WD Evo, the benefit is control under the kind of load a rally-bred chassis generates when you push it: transitional weight transfer through fast direction changes, and the way the drivetrain’s extra mass wants to keep moving after the front axle has already changed direction. The damping settings on this Racing Spec unit were developed from circuit racing programmes rather than street-comfort tuning, so the shock absorber resists fade as track temperatures climb through a session. Ride height is adjustable via the coilover collar, letting you set a lower centre of gravity and correct front/rear rake for a car that’s being driven at the limit rather than commuted in. The result on an Evo1-3 is a chassis that holds its line lap after corner, with less of the pitch and squat that a factory-spec strut allows once you’re genuinely on the brakes and throttle hard.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Racing Spec damper specifically for track racing, with its base tune drawn directly from involvement in circuit competition – including WTCC-level events – rather than adapted from a road-car product. That racing-programme origin is why the unit is calibrated for sustained high loads and repeated heat cycles instead of everyday comfort. For cars carrying more aggressive modifications – the kind of Evo running factory-style racing hardware or built to A-class competition spec – XYZ Racing also offers a bespoke damper service: owners can submit full details of their car’s upgrades and the circuit they intend to run, and XYZ Racing will build a custom-valved shock absorber around that specific combination. It’s a construction philosophy built around one use case, competition driving, rather than trying to flatter every road condition at once.
