XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz SLK R171 4/6 CYL 2004-2011

The SLK R171’s short wheelbase and front-engine, rear-drive layout make it a natural pivot car, but the factory dampers were tuned for boulevard comfort, not for holding an angle through a sustained slide. XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec coilover replaces that geometry with a setup built specifically around body control at high steering angles and high yaw rates.

This is the range built for competitive drifting rather than circuit lap times or ride quality. On the R171, that means a chassis that stays settled as you initiate, rather than one that pitches and unsettles the rear axle mid-transition.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2011 Mercedes Benz SLK R171 4/6 CYL

Drift driving loads a chassis differently to circuit driving – the car spends most of its time at high slip angle rather than tracking straight through an apex, so body control during that sustained rotation matters more than outright grip. This kit is built to keep the SLK R171’s body settled while the rear end is stepped out, holding the car steady through the transition rather than letting weight transfer upset the line. Reducing ride height with the correct bump stroke lowers the centre of gravity and gives the multi-link rear more usable travel to work with as you hold an angle, which is where a lot of drift setups either bottom out or lose the plot. The result on the 4/6 CYL SLK is a car that responds predictably when you correct, instead of snapping back or continuing to rotate past where you wanted it.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing engineered this range around one job: stabilising the car’s body through high-speed cornering so the driver can hold a clean, controllable angle rather than fighting the chassis. It’s a purpose-specific alternative to a general track or fast-road coilover, built around the demands of sustained oversteer rather than minimising lap time. Ride height is set low, with the bump stroke calculated so the shortened travel still absorbs load transfer instead of transmitting it straight into the chassis – the difference between a car that stays composed mid-slide and one that kicks. That combination of a controlled, lowered stance and stroke tuned for drift loading is what XYZ Racing’s own testing points to as the basis for holding an angle cleanly rather than correcting constantly. It’s a setup aimed squarely at drivers running events or practice sessions where controlling the slide, not just starting it, is the skill being tested.
