XYZ Racing Drag Racing Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz SLK R171 4/6 CYL 2004-2011

The SLK R171’s front-mounted four or six-cylinder layout and short roadster wheelbase leave relatively little static weight sitting over the driven rear axle – precisely the load a straight-line launch needs to put down through the rear tyres. A Drag Racing coilover is built around that one problem rather than cornering balance, using ride height and spring behaviour to move weight rearward the instant the car squats off the line.

This is not a trackday or fast-road spec. It is the kit an R171 owner fits when the car’s job is 0-400 metres in a straight line, whether the chassis under the bonnet is the four-cylinder or one of the V6 variants. Everything about the setup – the geometry, the damping character, the way it resists lift under acceleration – is tuned around launch and traction, not lateral grip.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2011 Mercedes Benz SLK R171

Fitted to the R171, this kit reduces the delay between throttle application and the rear tyres actually gripping – the "idle time" where a wheel spins before it hooks up. Front-to-rear weight bias shifts further onto the rear axle under launch load, which increases contact-patch compression on the driven tyres exactly when the car needs it most. The result is less wheelspin off the line and a more repeatable launch from run to run, rather than a different result every time the light drops. At speed, the same weight-transfer behaviour keeps the SLK’s rear end settled instead of light, which matters as much on a closed strip as it does merging back onto the road afterwards.

About the Drag Racing coilover

XYZ Racing built this range specifically for 0-400 metre runs, and it is engineered to work across FWD, RWD and 4WD platforms – on the rear-wheel-drive SLK, that means the setup is tuned around loading the driven rear axle rather than balancing front and rear together for cornering. The core idea is that the coilover’s setting lets the car redistribute weight toward the driven wheels the moment the throttle goes down, forcing greater compression into the contact patch of the tyres actually doing the work. That compression is what shortens the gap between wheelspin and traction, and why the platform stays composed as speed climbs through a run rather than growing light over the rear.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz SLK R171 (2004-2011)

This kit is built for the R171-generation SLK, chassis code ME23-1, across the 2004 to 2011 production run and both four- and six-cylinder engine variants. Confirm your build year falls within that window before ordering, as suspension geometry and mounting points shifted between R171 and the later R172.

The coilovers are specially designed for 0~400 drag racing such as FWD, RWD or 4WD models. The setting allows vehicle to change the front and rear weight according to the transmission wheel in instant driving, and force the transmission tire having greater compression, which can reduce the idle time of wheel and improve the stability of the vehicle under high speed.
