XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — BMW Z4 6 CYL (NON 3.2) 2002-2008

The E85/E86 Z4’s naturally aspirated 3.0-litre straight six sits well back behind the front axle, and on the factory dampers that near-perfect weight split doesn’t stop the rear from stepping out the moment you trail-brake into a tightening corner. Softly sprung from the factory for a comfortable open-top cruiser, the standard setup runs out of body control long before the chassis does.

XYZ Racing’s Top Sport coilover is built for exactly that gap between a fast road car and something you can trust on a track day without rebuilding the suspension first. It raises damping and spring rate over street settings enough to keep the Z4 flat under load while still being liveable on a Tuesday commute.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2008 Bmw Z4 6 CYL (NON 3.2)

Stiffening the rear over standard cuts the pendulum effect that catches Z4 owners out on a wet roundabout or a bumpy apex, holding the rear axle where you put it under trail-braking instead of letting it swing wide. The 2kg/mm-plus spring rate increase over street tune keeps the nose settled under braking into slower corners, which matters on a chassis that already carries a lot of its mass over the front wheels once the straight six is factored in. Raised damping force controls body roll through direction changes without turning the ride harsh over the mid-corner bumps that this Z4 generation’s short wheelbase transmits straight into the cabin. On track, the stiffer setup keeps the outside tyre’s contact patch loaded through longer, higher-speed corners rather than letting the sidewall roll away from you. On the road, the same increase in control means less of the float and rear-end wander the softer factory dampers allow once the roads get uneven.

About the Top Sport coilover

Top Sport is XYZ Racing’s step up from a street-comfort tune, adding roughly 30 to 50 percent more damping force, or around 2kg/mm more spring rate, than their standard road setting. That extra control is there to soak up the hit from a sharp ridge or pothole without the body continuing to pitch and roll after the wheel has already dealt with it, and to keep the tyre pressed into the road surface rather than skipping across it. The settings come directly from XYZ Racing’s own track-day testing programme, tuned around vehicle stability under repeated hard cornering rather than a single spec sheet number. It’s built for drivers who want a car that behaves predictably at the limit on a circuit day out, then drives home afterwards, rather than a full race setup that only makes sense on slicks.

Fitment for the Bmw Z4 6 CYL (NON 3.2) (2002-2008)

This kit is built specifically for the six-cylinder Z4, chassis code BM74, covering the 2002 to 2008 model years – the naturally aspirated 3.0i cars, not the 3.2-litre Z4 M. Confirm your Z4’s engine and production year against these ranges before ordering, as coilover geometry differs from the four-cylinder and M-spec cars.
