XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW Z4 6 CYL (NON 3.2) 2002-2008

The Z4’s short wheelbase and front-engine, rear-drive layout already want to rotate the moment you lift or trail-brake, which is exactly why the E85/E86 generation has become a fixture on UK drift days despite never being sold as a factory drift car. XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec coilover is built around that willingness to slide rather than fighting it, giving the driver a chassis that holds a controlled angle instead of snapping.

Where a fast-road or track set-up is tuned to resist body movement, this kit is calibrated for sustained high-slip-angle cornering: keeping the body stable as the rear steps out, so the car settles into the drift rather than see-sawing through it. Drop the ride height with the correct bump stroke set and the difference in how predictably the Z4 transitions into and holds a slide is immediately obvious from the seat.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2008 BMW Z4

On a 6-cylinder Z4 running the Drift Spec kit, the biggest change is how the body behaves once the rear tyres break traction. Instead of the roll and pitch that unsettles a stock or fast-road set-up mid-slide, the damping and lowered ride height keep the chassis flat and the geometry consistent through the full arc of a corner entry, so the car holds a chosen angle rather than requiring constant correction. That stability is what lets a driver commit to bigger entry speeds and longer, more consistent runs through a drift line, whether that’s a car park, a rented track day, or a competition course. The reduced ride height also lowers the centre of gravity on a chassis that already carries its weight low and centrally, sharpening the initial rotation on lift-off without making the car twitchy.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built the Drift Spec range specifically around competition drifting rather than adapting a track or fast-road kit to the discipline. The core job of the damper and spring combination is to stabilise the body while the car is turning at speed and at an extreme steering angle, so the chassis holds its line instead of pitching or wallowing as the rear end steps out. That stability is what lets a driver find and hold a clean drift angle rather than fighting the car through it. Once the kit is set to the correct ride height and bump stroke for the application, the improvement in how controllable the slide becomes is the whole point of the design, and it is tuned to work with the adjustments a competitive driver actually makes between runs rather than a fixed factory setting.

Fitment for the Bmw Z4 6 CYL (NON 3.2) (2002-2008)

This kit is built for the BMW Z4, chassis code BM74, covering the 6-cylinder models excluding the 3.2-litre variant, across the 2002 to 2008 production run. Confirm your specific engine variant against the non-3.2 6-cylinder spec before ordering.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
