XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E65 6 CYL 2001-2008

At over 1.7 tonnes, the E65 7 Series was never built with loose surfaces in mind, but that mass is exactly why a gravel-stage rally build on this platform needs dampers that can absorb repeated high-speed compressions without the chassis pitching every time the road surface changes underneath it. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover replaces the factory setup with a long-stroke, long-spring design built specifically for the abuse of sandstone, snow and silt, not tarmac.

This is a full rebuild of how the 7 Series rides, not a lowering kit. Where a road coilover trades stroke length for a lower ride height, this kit keeps the stroke long precisely so it can keep absorbing hits on a stage that never stays flat for more than a few metres.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2008 Bmw 7 Series E65 6 CYL

The inverted tube design is the key difference on loose surfaces: it’s built to keep working as the road condition changes underneath the car, from hardpack to sand to standing snow, rather than being tuned for one consistent surface. The long stroke and long spring combination absorbs chassis vibration from the aggressive high-speed bouncing that a gravel stage generates, and it’s built to bear the extreme G-forces the E65’s weight puts through the suspension mid-corner. On a chassis this heavy, uncontrolled body movement over compressions is what costs time and confidence; this setup is aimed at keeping the wheels tracking the surface instead of skipping over it. Every spring rate on offer has been set against Rally Racing team testing, so the base tune isn’t a generic road-car compromise pushed further than it was meant to go.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built this line specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the road surface is the most punishing of any motorsport discipline the brand caters for – sandstone, snow and silt all demand different things from a damper within the same event. The inverted tube construction is the response to that variability, giving the shock a design that keeps functioning as conditions shift underfoot. Stroke and spring length are both extended well beyond a track-day coilover’s spec, because absorbing chassis vibration and high-speed bounce over broken ground takes far more travel than lapping a circuit ever does. The spring rate options aren’t generic either – they’ve been run through Rally Racing team testing before being released, so the range reflects what has actually held up under competition load rather than a theoretical calculation.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
