XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E38 6 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) 1995-2002

The E38 7 Series carries close to two tonnes across a wheelbase stretching past 2.9 metres, and on loose or icy surfaces that mass wants to keep travelling in a straight line long after the front wheels have asked it to turn. The XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover for the BMW 7 Series E38 6 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) (1995-2002) is built around that problem: extended suspension travel front and rear gives the big saloon somewhere to go when a rut, a snow bank or a loose gravel edge puts a wheel out of shape.

Where the factory dampers – and the self-levelling air struts fitted to some other E38 variants – trade travel for a cushioned ride, this kit leans the other way. It is a design developed from rally-stage use, dropped into a car that was never built to see a stage, and on a 6-cylinder E38 running steel springs rather than air, it fits without fighting the car’s own levelling electronics.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 BMW 7 Series E38

Extra wheel travel changes how the E38 behaves the moment the surface stops being smooth tarmac. Instead of the suspension bottoming out over a broken farm track or a snow-packed lane, the wheel keeps working, so the nose stays loaded and the steering stays useful rather than skating over the top of ruts. The kit’s larger internal volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas is the other half of the story: on a car this heavy, sustained hard driving over rough ground heats damper oil quickly, and a bigger reservoir keeps that oil cooler for longer, so damping stays consistent instead of fading after twenty minutes on a snowy back road or a stage. Three external adjustment knobs let you firm the car up for a groomed gravel surface or soften it for deep snow and washboard ruts, without pulling the dampers apart to change internals.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow line is built specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the surface changes under the car from one corner to the next. Front and rear travel is extended well beyond a road or circuit coilover, giving the suspension a bigger buffer before it runs out of stroke over a jump, compression or rut. XYZ Racing pairs that longer travel with a greater volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than its circuit-focused kits carry, which is what keeps the shock’s operating temperature down during sustained rough-road driving rather than letting it overheat after repeated hard hits. The three external adjustment knobs use a small-orifice oil-passage design; over big compressions you may hear a faint noise as oil moves through that passage, which is a normal characteristic of the design rather than a fault. XYZ Racing builds the same core dampers into the kits it sells for circuit work, so the underlying construction has already handled repeated hard use before travel and valving are recalibrated for loose-surface driving.

Fitment for the BMW 7 Series E38 6 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) (1995-2002)

This kit is specified for the BMW 7 Series E38 six-cylinder cars built from 1995 to 2002, chassis code BM21-1, covering the six-cylinder E38 range that left the factory on conventional steel springs rather than self-levelling air struts. Because the fitment is tied specifically to the non-air-strut, steel-spring cars, confirm your car’s rear suspension type before ordering if you are unsure which E38 variant you have.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
