XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E38 6 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) 1995-2002

An E38 built to run stages instead of autobahns is a different animal entirely. The Gravel Rally coilover swaps the factory air-strut-adjacent comfort setup for a long-stroke, inverted-tube damper designed to shrug off the biggest hits a rally car will ever see.

This is the six-cylinder E38 (not the air-strut chassis), so the geometry and corner weights are known quantities. XYZ Racing builds the Gravel Rally spec around that reality: absorbing chassis vibration on broken surfaces without handing back a harsh, bottoming-out ride when the road turns to washboard or silt.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 Bmw 7 Series E38 6 CYL (NOT AIR Strut)

A 7 Series is not a lightweight car, and on loose surfaces that mass has to go somewhere every time the suspension compresses. The long stroke and long spring on this kit give the wheel more travel to work with before it runs out of shock and slams into the bump stop, which matters on sandstone, snow-packed or silty stage sections where ride height varies metre to metre. The inverted-tube design keeps the shock body oriented to resist the aggressive side-loading a big saloon generates when it’s pushed hard into a compression at speed. Spring rates are set to bear extreme G-force through direction changes rather than fold under it, so the chassis stays composed instead of wallowing through transitions. The net result on this E38 is a car that keeps its wheels in contact with the ground over repeated hits, rather than skipping and losing traction on the second or third bump in a series.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally line specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road conditions are the most punishing of any motorsport discipline the brand builds for – which is why the damper, not the tyre or the aero, is treated as the single most critical component on the car. The inverted-tube construction is built to cope with the full range of loose-surface conditions a stage throws at it, from sandstone and snow to fine silt, rather than being tuned for one surface type. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond what a road or track coilover would use, giving the damper room to absorb chassis vibration and take the impact of high-speed bouncy sections without transmitting that shock straight into the chassis. The spring rate settings aren’t generic either – XYZ Racing states they’re set and tested by an actual rally racing team, so the baseline calibration reflects what’s needed to survive real stage conditions rather than a lab estimate.

Fitment for the Bmw 7 Series E38 (1995-2002)

This kit is built for the E38-chassis 7 Series, six-cylinder cars specifically – not the air-strut-equipped variant – across the 1995 to 2002 production run. Confirm your car matches the 6-cylinder, non-air-strut specification before ordering, as the E38 range spans multiple suspension configurations across this generation.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
