XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES E34 6 CYL φ55 welding 1987-1995

The E34 5 Series carries its straight-six well forward of the front axle, and on loose surfaces that weight bias shows up fast: the nose wants to plough on into a bend the moment the road turns to gravel or ice. XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built around that problem rather than around tarmac grip. Extended-travel front and rear struts give the chassis somewhere to go when a wheel drops into a rut or a compression arrives mid-corner, instead of the suspension simply running out of movement and transferring the hit straight into the body.

This is the coilover to fit an E34 that’s going to see rally-style stages, rallycross, or a UK winter where the road surface can’t be trusted from one mile to the next – not a track-day special built for smooth circuit tarmac.

What this coilover kit does for your 1987-1995 BMW 5 Series

Longer suspension travel at both ends increases the buffer distance before the strut bottoms out, which matters when the E34 is landing off a crest or crossing a rutted gravel section rather than riding smooth circuit tarmac. A larger reservoir of suspension oil and nitrogen gas keeps oil temperature down over a long stage or a long winter drive, so the third hour feels like the first instead of the damper fading. Three external adjustment knobs let you retune compression and rebound as the surface shifts from packed gravel to standing snow, without pulling the strut off the car. Because the φ55 strut body is a weld-on fitment rather than a bolt-in top mount, this coilover goes on via proper fabrication – the payoff is a mounting point built specifically for this chassis, not a compromise adapter.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

XYZ Racing designed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where sustained high-speed impacts and constant surface changes put a different load on a strut than a circuit ever will. The longer front and rear travel is there to absorb the bigger hits that come with loose-surface driving without the suspension bottoming out and passing that shock straight to the chassis. Internally, the coilover carries a larger charge of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than a road or circuit-focused strut, which is what lets it shed heat over a long stage instead of fading as oil temperature climbs. The three-knob adjustment system uses a small-oil-hole design to fine-tune damping response; driving over larger bumps can produce a faint noise through that passage as oil moves through the smaller channel, which is a normal characteristic of this build rather than a fault. It’s a strut built to keep working after the kind of repeated, hard hits that would cook a standard damper.

Fitment for the BMW 5 Series E34, 6-cylinder φ55 welding (1987-1995)

This kit is specced for the BMW 5 Series E34 six-cylinder cars built between 1987 and 1995, using a φ55 strut body that fits via a weld-on top mount rather than a factory bolt-in point. Confirm your E34 is the six-cylinder variant covered by this fitment before ordering, as the welding-spec strut is matched to this chassis configuration specifically.

What buyers also search for

  • BMW E34 5 Series owners use this coilover to build a rally or rallycross car straight from the six-cylinder saloon.
  • This φ55 weld-on coilover gives the BMW 5 Series E34 the long-travel suspension a gravel or snow stage demands.
  • Three-way adjustable damping lets an E34 rally build be retuned as stages move from packed gravel to standing snow.
  • The extended oil and gas capacity keeps this BMW 5 Series coilover consistent across a full rally stage rather than fading.

Spec your BMW 5 Series E34 for the stage rather than the circuit – configure your Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
