XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES E34 6 CYL φ55 welding 1987-1995

The E34’s long wheelbase and front-engine, rear-drive layout make it a natural drift platform, but the factory suspension geometry was tuned for autobahn cruising, not sustained oversteer. Body roll under transition and vague weight transfer during angle changes are what catch out drivers trying to hold a line through a long corner entry.

The XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover for the 6-cylinder E34 replaces that geometry with a setup built specifically around competitive drifting: stabilising the body through high-speed direction changes so the car holds its angle rather than fighting the driver for it.

What this coilover does for your 1987-1995 Bmw 5 Series

Once fitted, the E34 sits lower with a controlled bump stroke calibrated for drift use, which keeps the body settled as you initiate and hold an angle rather than pitching and rolling through the transition. That stability translates directly into more predictable corner entry – you can commit to an angle earlier because the chassis isn’t still moving underneath you. Ride height reduction also lowers the centre of gravity, reducing the lag between steering input and body response during rapid direction changes. For a car this size, that responsiveness matters more than outright grip; the E34 needs to change direction on command, not settle into it.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built the Drift Spec range around one job: keeping the car’s body stable while it’s being driven sideways at speed. The internal valving and spring rate are set up to control body movement through high-speed turning rather than to maximise mechanical grip, which is the opposite priority to a circuit-focused coilover. Combined with a properly set ride height and bump stroke, the result is a chassis that holds its angle cleanly instead of wallowing mid-slide. It’s a setup that rewards a driver who already knows how to read a car’s weight transfer, giving them a platform that responds rather than resists.

Fitment for the Bmw 5 Series (1987-1995)

This kit is fitted to the E34-chassis 5 Series with the 6-cylinder engine and φ55 welding-type strut construction, covering the 1987 to 1995 production run. Confirm your car matches the 6-cylinder φ55 welding specification before ordering, as earlier 4-cylinder E34 variants use a different strut mount.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
