XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E30 4WD φ52 (Front Welding OE Rear Separated) 1988-1991

The E30 325iX is the only 3 Series BMW built with a factory viscous-coupled 4WD system, and it is precisely that drivetrain layout that makes gravel and snow stages viable in a car most people only picture on tarmac. Extra hardware ahead of the bulkhead shifts weight forward and loads the front struts differently to a rear-drive E30, and a rally-spec setup has to answer for that while still surviving washboard gravel at speed.

This is the Pro Rally kit built for the φ52 strut body on the 4WD chassis, specified with front units that weld into the OE turret and a rear end built as a separated spring-and-damper assembly rather than a shared strut insert. It is the "professional" build path – the car’s structure gets modified to take the kit, not the other way round.

What this coilover does for your 1988-1991 Bmw 3 Series E30 4WD φ52 (Frt Welding OE Rr Separated)

Welding the front strut body directly into the turret removes the flex and play that a bolt-in top mount introduces once a car is jumping ruts and landing off-camber – the kind of loading a rally stage puts through the nose of a 4WD E30 that a road car never sees. The separated rear layout means the spring and damper aren’t sharing a single housing, so ride height and damper travel can be set independently to match the terrain rather than compromising on a fixed relationship between the two. On a car carrying the added mass and geometry of the viscous coupling and front driveshafts, that independent rear control matters for keeping the back axle following the front rather than skating wide on loose surfaces. Height is adjustable at both ends, so the car can be run closer to standard for tarmac-biased events or raised for rough gravel and snow without swapping components.

About the Pro Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s rally suspension is split into two build philosophies: an amateur-spec unit that bolts straight into the original chassis mounting points, and a professional-spec unit – this one – that requires the body to be modified to accept it, in this case a welded front strut mount. That extra work at installation buys a stronger mechanical connection between chassis and suspension than a bolted interface can match once the car is being driven flat-out over broken surfaces. The rear separated design follows the same logic used across serious gravel and snow rally builds, where spring and damper are decoupled so travel and preload can be tuned on their own terms. It’s built around the φ52 strut body for the added strength that diameter gives over road-oriented kits, and it’s aimed squarely at competitors running full events, not fast-road enthusiasts wanting a stiffer ride.

Fitment for the Bmw 3 Series E30 4WD φ52 (Frt Welding OE Rr Separated) (1988-1991)

This kit is specified for the E30-chassis 3 Series with the factory 4WD drivetrain (chassis code BM130), covering the 1988 to 1991 production run. It is built specifically around the φ52 front strut diameter and the welded-front, separated-rear configuration – check your strut diameter and mounting type against these specs before ordering, as the amateur bolt-in variant uses a different fitting method.

1. Be installed directly with the original chassis. (Amateur type)
2. Be installed after modifying the car body. (Professional type)

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
