XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E30 4 CYL OE φ45 (Front Welding OE Rear Separated) 1982-1992

The E30’s semi-trailing-arm rear end and OE-diameter φ45 front strut mounts were sized for a 1980s road car, not for the B-roads and occasional track days this chassis still gets asked to do forty years on. Standard-fit dampers on these cars have long since given up any real control over that rear geometry, which is exactly where a set of Street Advanced coilovers earns its keep.

Street Advanced is XYZ Racing’s road-and-track-day spec, built to give an E30 owner a usable range between a comfortable daily commute and a session on circuit, rather than forcing a choice between the two. With 720 increments of damping adjustment on tap, there’s enough range in the dial to soften things up for a motorway run home and firm the car up again before the next trackday without swapping parts.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1992 BMW 3 Series

On an E30, the biggest single improvement is control over that semi-trailing-arm rear under load – less unwanted camber and toe movement mid-corner, and a car that holds its line instead of squatting and wandering. The front end, built around the φ45 OE-diameter strut, responds more directly to steering input once the correct spring rate and damping are matched to it, cutting down on the dive under braking that these light 4-cylinder E30s are known for. The 720-way damping adjustment means you can dial the rear down for grip and compliance on a wet B-road, then wind it up for a firmer, flatter platform when the car’s on track. Ride height is also adjustable, so the correct stance and corner weights can be set once the springs are on, rather than living with whatever the factory perch height gave you.

About the Street Advanced coilover

Street Advanced is the volume model in the XYZ Racing range, developed over several seasons and proven in competition before it reaches a road car. The core of the offer is that 720-position damping adjuster, giving a genuinely usable spread between soft and firm rather than a token few clicks either end. Construction follows XYZ’s usual road/track split: the front strut is built to the OE φ45 welded-body format for a direct bolt-in on the E30’s original mounting points, while the rear uses a separated spring-and-damper arrangement rather than a single coilover unit, matching the way the E30’s rear suspension was originally laid out. It’s aimed squarely at owners who want one set of suspension that copes with commuting, fast road driving and the odd trackday outing, without needing a second set of dampers for each.

Fitment for the Bmw 3 Series E30 (1982-1992)

Built for the BMW 3 Series E30, chassis code BM05-1, covering 1982 to 1992 production. The kit is specified for the 4-cylinder E30 with OE φ45 front strut mounting and a separated rear spring/damper layout, matching this generation’s original suspension architecture rather than a later coilover-style rear.
