XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 1 SERIES F20 4/6 CYL (excl. M-Technik. xDrive & EDC) (Modified Rear Integrated) 2010-2026

The F20 1 Series was always a rear-wheel-drive hatchback with more chassis balance than most owners ever explored on the road, and that’s exactly the platform a gravel stage rewards. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built for that use case specifically, not adapted from a track-day part, with a rear end configured for the modified, rear-integrated mounting this fitment demands. On loose surfaces the standard dampers give up long before the chassis does; this kit is built to keep working once the road stops behaving like one.

This is the gravel-stage spec, not the Circuit Master or Top Sport line, so it’s built to survive the compression events of a rutted forest stage or a rock-strewn access road, where a fast-road coilover would bottom out or overheat inside a handful of miles. For an F20 running 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder power without the factory M-Technik pack, xDrive, or EDC electronic damping, that means a chassis finally matched to what a rally-prepped BMW should feel like underneath.

What this coilover does for your 2010-2026 BMW 1 Series

Fit this kit to an F20 and the first thing you’ll notice is how much stroke is now available before the suspension runs out of travel. The long-stroke, long-spring set-up soaks up chassis vibration that would otherwise transmit straight through the standard rear end, so a washboard gravel surface at speed stops trying to shake the car off line. The inverted-tube damper body is there for exactly this kind of abuse, coping with sandy, snow-covered or silty stage conditions that would cook a conventional monotube design within a stage or two. Under hard cornering, where the F20’s rear subframe is loading and unloading through ruts and camber changes, the damper is built to bear the G-force spikes that come with it rather than fold under them. The result on your specific car is a rear end that stays planted and predictable through compression events a fast-road setup was never asked to handle.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally coilover is XYZ Racing’s line for rally and rallycross use, where surface conditions are about as hostile as motorsport gets. The brief starts from the idea that on a gravel stage the damper does more work than almost any other component on the car, so the internals use an inverted-tube layout specifically so the shock can cope with sand, snow or silt without the tube packing out or losing consistency between conditions. Stroke length and spring length are both extended over a tarmac-spec coilover, giving the damper room to absorb vibration from a broken surface before that energy reaches the chassis, with reserve travel held back for the high-speed compressions that come from bouncing across a rutted road at pace. Spring rates across the range have been set and proven by an active rally racing team rather than calculated on a bench, which matters when the car has to survive repeated G-force loading through fast corners on loose surfaces without the rates being wrong for the job.

Fitment for the BMW 1 Series F20 (2010-2026)

This kit is built for the BMW 1 Series F20, chassis code BM96, across the 2010 to 2026 model years, covering both 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder variants. It’s specifically configured for cars without the factory M-Technik pack, xDrive four-wheel drive, or EDC electronic damping, and uses a modified, rear-integrated mounting arrangement rather than a direct bolt-in rear end.

Spec is everything on a stage car, so match the damper to how the F20 will actually be run before you commit – configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
