Caliper render for this kit:

The Proton 418 RS does almost all of its stopping on the front axle, a consequence of its light, Mitsubishi-derived front-wheel-drive layout, where weight pitches forward the moment you lean on the pedal. That leaves the factory rear brakes underworked on the road and quick to lose consistency on a circuit, exactly where stable rear bias is what settles the car on the way into a corner. This XYZ Racing Hollow Rear Big Brake Kit for the Proton 418 RS (1993-2007) is built to restore that balance.
Fitted as a matched pair to the rear axle, it pairs a lightweight two-piece floating disc with a fixed caliper, giving firmer pedal feel and the thermal headroom to brake hard repeatedly without the rear contribution fading away. For a fast-road 418 RS it sharpens turn-in; for track work it holds bias predictably across a session.
What this brake kit does for your 1993-2007 Proton 418 RS
After fitting, the first thing you notice is a firmer, more progressive pedal: the larger rear disc and rigid caliper cut the flex and squirm of the original setup. On a car as light as the 418 RS that translates straight into shorter, more confident stops and a rear axle that stays planted under trail-braking instead of stepping out. The three pad compounds let you match the kit to how you drive: the Street pad for everyday running, the Sport compound for spirited road work, and the Racing compound for repeated heavy stops on a circuit. Heat that used to overwhelm the standard rear brakes now has somewhere to go, so the pedal stays where you left it deep into a lap.
About the Hollow Big Brake Kit
The kit is built around two-piece floating discs, machined to shed unsprung and rotating mass while keeping the swept area a big brake upgrade needs, with the floating mount letting the rotor expand under heat without coning. That lighter rotating assembly is worth real money on a small-capacity car like the 418 RS, where every kilogram off the wheels is felt in how quickly the car changes direction. The fixed rear caliper clamps more evenly than the original sliding arrangement, and the kit comes with a choice of three pad compounds – Street, Sport and Racing – so the same hardware suits a daily driver or a dedicated track build. Disc faces come drilled or slotted at the same price, and the centre bell can be upgraded to a two-tone anodized finish in five colours or to titanium. Calipers are finished in five included options – red, yellow, gold, black or anodized black – with a Pantone Custom Color for £150, so the kit reads as intended behind an open wheel, and an optional Hollow Racing caliper – no dust cover, rated to 1000C, two-year warranty – is there for hard track use. It is a bolt-on rear brake kit designed around the 418 RS rather than a generic part forced to fit.
Fitment for the Proton 418 RS (1993-2007)
This kit is matched to the Proton 418 RS across its full 1993-2007 production span and fits the rear axle. Confirm your wheel clearance before ordering, as a big brake kit needs adequate room behind the spokes. Pad compound and caliper colour are both chosen when you order.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
