Caliper render for this kit:

The Proton 418 RS’s Mitsubishi Compact platform was always a capable base: front-wheel drive, a willing 1.8-litre under the bonnet, and an RS trim that left the factory with enough intent to make owners want more. The weak point, especially on cars now 20 to 30 years old, is the braking system. Original front calipers and discs were specified to a 1990s cost target, not the sustained loads that come from spirited road use or a track day.
Front-heavy FWD platforms put significant thermal stress on the front axle under repeated braking, and the 418’s OEM setup was never designed for the scenario where this car is at its most entertaining: deep late-braking into a corner, using the front tyres hard to rotate the car, loading the outside front repeatedly through a sequence. This XYZ Racing front big brake kit addresses that directly. It is a front-axle kit, a matched pair of front calipers and two-piece floating discs with braided lines included, bringing a meaningful upgrade to the part of the car doing most of the work.
What this brake kit does for your 1993-2007 Proton 418 RS
On a front-wheel-drive car, the front brakes manage braking, load transfer, and corner-entry balance simultaneously, with no meaningful rear-axle contribution to speak of. Upgrading the front axle sharpens initial bite and improves pedal feel under progressive load, which matters here because brake confidence at turn-in is what separates a tidy corner from a wide, understeer-inducing slide. The hollow-vane disc holds heat in check across repeated stops, the two-piece floating disc keeps the friction ring true, and braided lines keep the pedal firm where ageing rubber lines would go soft.
Three pad compounds mean the setup scales from everyday use to track sessions without swapping hardware between weekends. Street is the quiet, low-dust default. Sport adds bite and heat range for fast road. Racing is the dedicated track compound.
About the Hollow Front Brake Kit
The Hollow series is designed as a step up from OEM-grade braking on cars where the factory specification was, at best, adequate for normal road use. The caliper is a hollow-body design as standard, sized beyond the original Proton fitment for greater clamping force without a disproportionate increase in pedal effort, which keeps the car manageable in stop-start traffic. For owners running serious track miles, the optional Hollow Racing upgrade deletes the dust cover, is rated to 1000C and carries a two-year warranty.
The three-compound pad system lets the same hardware operate across a wide temperature and use-case range, from Street for daily driving through Sport for fast road to Racing for sustained high-temperature cycling. Included caliper colours are Red, Yellow, Gold, Black and Anodized Black at no cost, with a Custom Color in any Pantone available, plus premium polished-forged (Titanium, Polished Gold, Polished Silver) and candy (Candy Teal, Candy Blue, Candy Red, Candy Orange) finishes above those. For a platform out of production for nearly two decades, this upgrade also addresses the practical reality that original-quality replacement parts are increasingly difficult to source.
Fitment for the Proton 418 RS (1993-2007)
This kit is confirmed for the Proton 418 RS across its full production run from 1993 to 2007. The RS designation is the relevant trim for this fitment. If your car is a different variant within the Proton 400 series, verify the fitment against your specific chassis documentation before ordering.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 286–380mm (front). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
