Caliper render for this kit:

The XJ40 is a big, deliberately unhurried luxury saloon, close to 1.8 tonnes of British executive metal riding on independent rear suspension. Stopping that mass repeatedly, from speed, is where the original rear setup starts to feel its age, and where heat becomes the enemy. The XYZ Racing rear brake kit for the Jaguar Sovereign (XJ40) addresses exactly that, replacing the standard rear discs and calipers with a larger, vented pair built to live with high temperatures.
This is rear-axle hardware for owners keeping these 1986-1994 Sovereigns properly usable in 2026, cars that still cover real distance rather than sitting in a collection. Pad compound runs from Street through Sport to a Racing spec, so the same kit suits a gently driven garage example or a Jaguar that gets leaned on harder than its makers ever intended.
What this brake kit does for your 1986-1994 Jaguar Sovereign (XJ40)
On a car this heavy, the gain you feel first is thermal. A larger rear disc with more swept area and venting takes longer to fade, so the pedal stays firm on a long A-road descent or through a sequence of hard stops where the original brakes would go soft and long. Balance improves too: a stronger, more consistent rear contribution helps settle the XJ40 under braking rather than letting the nose dive and the tail go light. Pick the Street compound for quiet cold bite on daily use, the Sport compound for spirited road work, or the Racing compound if the Sovereign sees occasional track or hard fast-road use. The caliper finish is the part you see, but the real change is a rear axle that hauls the car down predictably every time.
About the Hollow rear brake kit
XYZ Racing builds this as a direct rear-axle pair rather than a universal bracket-and-hope fit: a left and right caliper with two-piece floating discs sized to clamp the larger rotors. The hollow-vane disc casting vents heat from under the pad and trims a little unsprung weight at each rear corner. Three pad compounds are offered: Street for close-to-stock feel, Sport for stronger bite at road temperatures, and Racing for sustained high-heat use. The caliper is hollow-body as standard, with an optional Hollow Racing upgrade for hard use that drops the dust cover, is rated to 1000C and carries a two-year warranty. The aim is a kit suited to the heavy, fast Jaguar saloon: more thermal headroom at the rear, a firmer pedal under repeated use, and consistency the original rear brakes lose as they heat up. Calipers come painted at no extra cost in Red, Yellow, Gold, Black or Anodized Black, with a Custom Color in any Pantone for £150 and premium polished-forged (Titanium, Polished Gold, Polished Silver) or candy (Candy Teal, Candy Blue, Candy Red, Candy Orange) finishes. Discs come drilled or slotted at the same price, with two-tone anodized or titanium centre bells selectable at checkout. Everything here is rear-specific, so pair it with the matching front kit if you want a balanced overhaul of the whole car.
Fitment for the Jaguar Sovereign (XJ40) (1986-1994)
This kit is cut specifically for the Jaguar Sovereign on the XJ40 platform, covering the 1986 to 1994 production run, and fits the rear axle only as a pair of calipers and discs. The Sovereign trim spanned the full XJ40 lifespan, so confirm your exact build year before ordering and match the rear hardware to your car.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
