XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ST182/184 (Mcpherson Type) 1989-1993

Point a front-wheel-drive ST182 Celica down a loose gravel stage and the limiting factor is rarely the driver – it is how much suspension travel sits between the wheel and the bump stop before the damper runs out of stroke. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Toyota Celica ST182/184 is built around that problem: long-travel, inverted-strut damping made to keep a T180-generation Celica settled when the surface is hard-packed sandstone through one corner and loose silt through the next.

This is the gravel-stage specification, not a fast-road kit pressed into rally duty. The long springs and extended stroke exist to swallow the hits a tarmac-biased coilover would simply pass straight into the shell, so the front MacPherson struts keep working rather than topping out over crests and ruts.

What this Gravel Rally coilover kit does for your 1989-1993 Toyota Celica ST182/184

The inverted tube layout puts the larger-diameter body up top, which resists the side-loading a nose-heavy front-drive Celica throws at its struts under hard cornering and stiffens the assembly where a conventional strut would flex. That translates to a front axle that stays planted and predictable when you load it mid-stage. The long stroke keeps the inside wheel tracking the ground over compressions instead of going light, so traction off slow gravel hairpins is there when you ask for it. Spring rates were set by a working rally team, so the kit arrives already biased toward grip and chassis control on a low-grip surface rather than ride height for its own sake.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross, where the road conditions are the harshest in motorsport and the shock absorber does more of the work than almost any other component. The construction uses an inverted tube design chosen to cope with widely varying surfaces – sandstone, snow and silt all in a single stage. Long stroke and long springs are central to the concept: they absorb the chassis vibration of a fast, bouncy gravel road and let the suspension take repeated high-speed impacts while still managing the lateral G-force loaded through the strut in a turn. Every spring rate in the kit was validated by a rally racing team rather than calculated on paper, which is what separates a genuine gravel coilover from a road kit with extra ride height.

Fitment for the Toyota Celica ST182/184 (1989-1993)

This kit is specified for the front-strut Toyota Celica ST182/184 (chassis code TO17), MacPherson-type front suspension, across the 1989 to 1993 model span. It suits the front-wheel-drive ST182 and ST184 cars of the T180 generation. Confirm your chassis code against the listed designation before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
