XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ST182/184 (Mcpherson Type) 1989-1993

The ST184 GT-Four is the less-discussed chapter in Toyota’s rally story – the bridge between the ST165 and the WRC-conquering ST185 CS, built on a McPherson strut front layout and already being pressed into competition service on gravel and snow stages when this coilover’s specification was taking shape. For anyone running an ST182 or ST184 on regularities, loose-surface hillclimbs, or rallycross rounds, suspension geometry isn’t an afterthought – it’s the entire conversation.

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is XYZ Racing’s answer for rally and rallycross applications. Where road-biased kits compress the travel envelope to keep wheels tucked close to the arches, this kit extends stroke front and rear, building in the buffer distance that unpredictable surfaces demand. Over a rocky stage or a snow-covered hillclimb, that extra suspension movement is what keeps the car planted rather than bouncing off its bumpstops.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1993 Toyota CELICA ST182/184 (Mcpherson Type)

Extended front and rear travel transforms how the ST182/184 platform handles loose and variable surfaces. Rather than fighting to stay compliant, the suspension can work through the larger compressions that gravel and snow produce, keeping the tyres loaded and the car steerable mid-stage. The kit also carries an enlarged oil and nitrogen gas reservoir compared to standard competition units – a deliberate choice to prevent heat build-up during sustained running, where shock oil degradation under temperature is often what ends stages early. Three adjustment knobs allow the driver to tune rebound and compression for surface conditions, whether softening off for loose gravel or firming up for a compacted snow stage.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow

Developed for rally racing and rallycross from the ground up, the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow centres its specification around durability and surface versatility. The extended-travel construction gives both axles the movement range that tarmac-biased dampers deliberately eliminate. Inside the body, XYZ Racing has increased both the oil volume and the nitrogen gas charge – this enlarged capacity manages thermal load across a full competitive stage, preventing fade at a point where a standard unit’s response would begin to feel vague. Three adjustment knobs handle damping control via a small oil passage design; this architecture does produce an audible tick over sharp impacts, which is a characteristic of the small-hole damping circuit rather than a fault. Bring appropriate expectations to the noise level in a competition environment, where it matters not at all.

Fitment for the Toyota CELICA ST182/184 (Mcpherson Type) (1989-1993)

This kit is built for the fifth-generation Celica on ST182 and ST184 platforms, McPherson strut front suspension, across the full production run from 1989 to 1993. The chassis code for this application is TO17. Confirm your front suspension type before ordering – not all Celica variants from this generation share the McPherson layout, and the kit is machined to that geometry specifically.

The ST182/184 has a smaller community than the ST185 that followed it, but the owners who have held onto these cars know exactly what they are doing with them. Configure yours below to confirm fitment against your chassis code and spec the right damping range for your events.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
