XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Toyota ARISTO JZS147 1991-1996

The JZS147 Aristo carries its 2JZ well forward of the front axle, and that nose-led mass is the first thing a loose surface punishes. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Toyota ARISTO JZS147 is built to keep a heavy, front-engined rear-drive saloon composed where the road turns to sandstone, silt or snow. It swaps the standard car’s soft luxury compliance for long-travel control that absorbs impacts rather than crashing through them.

This is a stage-rally damper first and a road part second. Where a tarmac setup runs short and stiff, the Gravel Rally kit runs long springs and a long working stroke, so the JZS147 can attack a broken, bouncy surface at speed without a wheel unloading mid-corner.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1996 Toyota ARISTO JZS147

On a gravel stage the JZS147’s weight wants to pitch forward under braking and squat hard on corner exit, and that long stroke is what keeps the tyres in contact through it. You get usable travel over ruts and crests instead of the chassis topping out, which means the front end keeps biting where a road-spec damper would skip and wash wide. The inverted tube layout adds rigidity at the strut to resist the side loads a heavy saloon generates when it changes direction on a loose surface. For a 1.6-tonne-plus car being driven hard off-tarmac, that translates to predictable rotation, traction you can lean on out of slow corners, and far less of the floaty rebound the standard Aristo settles into when the surface gets rough.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series is engineered specifically for rally and rallycross use, where XYZ Racing treats the loose-surface stage as the most aggressive test a damper faces. The construction centres on an inverted tube design chosen to handle widely varying surfaces – sandstone, snow and silt all loading the shock differently within a single stage. A long stroke paired with a long spring lets the damper soak up chassis vibration and high-frequency hits from a bumpy surface while still managing the lateral G-force the car loads in through faster turns. The intent is a unit that keeps working when a road damper would already be at the end of its travel. Every spring rate in the range has been validated by XYZ Racing’s own rally team rather than set on paper, so the calibration reflects real stage running rather than a generic loose-surface guess.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
