XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Porsche BOXSTER (981) 2012-2016

The 981 Boxster’s mid-engine architecture – flat-six slung between the cabin and the rear axle – creates a polar moment of inertia that few competition cars share, but on gravel and snow that very neutrality becomes a tuning challenge. Rally geometry calibrated for a nose-heavy hatchback will not translate directly to the 981; the car’s near-even front-to-rear weight balance and the way it rotates on loose surfaces both require a different suspension philosophy.

The XYZ Racing Pro Rally coilovers answer that challenge. Built for rally gravel and snow competition, they are offered in two specifications: an amateur type that mounts directly to the stock 981 chassis without body modification, and a professional type for cars already prepared for top-flight competition.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2016 Porsche Boxster (981)

The main gain over the factory Boxster units is travel and articulation. The standard road suspension is tuned for smooth surfaces and minimal body movement – the opposite of what a gravel stage demands. With the 981’s weight distributed so evenly across both axles, the Pro Rally calibration allows front and rear to cycle independently through compressions and extensions without the unpredictable weight transfer that affects nose-heavy cars on loose surfaces. The naturally aspirated flat-six’s smooth power delivery becomes a real asset here: you can load the rear without the sudden torque spikes that catch a modified car mid-corner on gravel.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally range is a competition-specification product, not a road or track-day coilover repurposed for loose surfaces. XYZ Racing designed it in two distinct configurations: the amateur type bolts directly onto the original chassis architecture, making it viable for club and national-level competitors who need to keep the 981’s unibody intact. The professional type is designed for cars that have undergone body modification as part of a full competition preparation – the geometry and travel figures assume structural changes the stock shell was not built to handle. Both versions address the specific demands of gravel and snow driving: extended droop, controlled compression under heavy landings, and calibration for surfaces where grip cycles are unpredictable and grip itself is always in short supply.

Fitment for the Porsche Boxster (981) (2012-2016)

This kit covers the 981-chassis Boxster from 2012 to 2016, including both the 2.7-litre base and 3.4-litre S variants. The 981 generation ran until the 718 replaced it in 2016, and both naturally aspirated specifications share the same suspension architecture this fitment is designed for.
