XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Porsche 996 GT3 1999-2005

The 996 GT3’s rear-heavy weight distribution – roughly 60% sitting over the driven axle – makes it a genuinely unusual platform for gravel-stage competition. Every crest and hollow feeds that rear mass directly into the suspension, and the standard geometry has neither the travel nor the compliance to absorb the loads that loose sandstone or compacted silt can generate at competitive speed. The factory setup was built for tarmac; it isn’t.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover was developed precisely for this application. It brings the long-stroke, extended-travel architecture that serious loose-surface competition demands to the 996 platform, replacing the road-biased suspension with hardware that was conceived for rally and rallycross from the first sketch.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2005 Porsche 996 GT3

Fitting the Gravel Rally transforms how the GT3 manages the specific violence of a loose-surface stage. The inverted-tube damper construction reduces unsprung mass at each corner, preserving the responsiveness the 996 GT3’s steering is known for even as the road surface deteriorates beneath it. Extended stroke and longer springs give the rear axle room to move with the terrain rather than fight it – critical for a car where rear-axle traction is the single largest variable in the handling balance. On high-speed compressions that would bottom out standard equipment, the chassis absorbs the G-forces and stays composed, keeping tyres in contact rather than skipping across the surface. For a rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive platform competing on gravel, that compliance is what separates a manageable car from an unpredictable one.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series is built around an inverted-tube damper design – a construction that repositions the working cylinder to the upper portion of the unit, reducing unsprung weight and increasing lateral rigidity across all four corners. XYZ developed this specific specification to handle three distinct loose-surface conditions: sandstone, snow, and silt, each of which places different loads on damper seals and demands different stroke characteristics to absorb without damage. Extended stroke length and long-specification springs allow the car to ride aggressive, high-speed compressions without the violent rebound that destroys tyre contact in an instant. Every spring rate setting in the Gravel Rally range has been validated through live rally racing rather than derived from theoretical calculations. The design brief was extreme lateral and vertical G-forces; the road car is not the reference point.

Fitment for the Porsche 996 GT3 (1999-2005)

This kit covers the 996-generation GT3 across its full production span from 1999 to 2005, encompassing both the Mk1 and Mk2 variants built on the GT3 chassis designation. Confirm your build date and specification using the fitment selector before ordering, as individual competition builds may carry modified subframe geometry that affects installation clearances.

The 996 GT3 is a serious competition car running on a demanding loose-surface platform – select your specification and build yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
