XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 LANTIS 1994-1998

The 323 Lantis BA-series sits in an awkward spot for stage car builds: a light, front-drive Mazda saloon with a willing chassis and almost no off-the-shelf rally suspension still in production for it. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover exists to fill exactly that gap, giving MA12 owners a purpose-engineered damper that can actually take a beating on loose surface.

This is the gravel-spec kit, not the tarmac variant. It assumes you are running this Lantis on stage, on a forest road, or on a rally school day – somewhere the suspension has to soak up ruts, kerbs and compressions without packing down. The geometry, valving and travel are set up for that specific job.

What this coilover does for your 1994-1998 Mazda 323 Lantis

The first thing you feel on a 323 Lantis sat on a properly valved gravel coilover is the extra usable travel. The standard BA-series suspension runs out of stroke quickly over the kind of compressions a gravel stage throws at it, and once it tops or bottoms the front end goes light and the car runs wide. The Gravel Rally damper is built around longer stroke and softer initial spring rates than the road or circuit variants in the XYZ Racing line, so the car stays planted through dips and crests instead of skipping.

Damping adjustability lets you tune front-end bite for the surface in front of you. Drop the rebound a few clicks on rougher Welsh forestry, firm it up on faster, smoother Scottish gravel. The Lantis is a light car with modest power, so traction out of slow corners is everything – this kit is set up to keep both front wheels on the ground when you get back on the throttle.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s loose-surface specification within their coilover range. Construction is full-length adjustable with damping clicks at the top of each strut, so ride height and damper feel are independent of one another – you can corner-weight the car without losing your damper settings. Springs are matched to the gravel use-case rather than circuit work, which means lower rates and longer free length than the Circuit Master or Super Sport kits sharing the platform.

The reservoir and shaft sizing is built to dissipate heat over sustained rough-road running, which is what kills lesser dampers on stage within a couple of miles. Pillowball top mounts at the front sharpen turn-in response, and the kit ships set to a baseline gravel ride height that gives you room to drop or raise to suit the event regulations and surface.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 Lantis (1994-1998)

This kit is built specifically for the BA-platform 323 Lantis with the MA12 chassis code, covering the 1994 through 1998 model years. The hardware matches the original front strut and rear damper mounting points on this generation – no modification to the body or subframes is required for fitment.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
