XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mazda 6 / ATENZA (GJ1-GL) 2012-2026

The GJ-generation Mazda 6 was never built to be a rally car. It was built to be the saloon that handled better than it had any right to – KODO styling, SkyActiv chassis, a kerb weight that crept up generation on generation, and a front end that pushes wide the moment you load it on a loose surface. The Tarmac Rally coilover exists for owners who’ve decided that "handles better than it should" isn’t enough.

For sealed-stage tarmac work in a GJ1 or facelift GL Mazda 6, this is the spec that turns a torsionally stiff but softly sprung saloon into something that will hold a line through a third-gear hairpin without rolling onto the outer shoulder. It’s a stage-rally damper philosophy applied to a road-registered chassis.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2026 Mazda 6 / ATENZA (GJ1-GL)

Drop a Tarmac Rally setup into a GJ Mazda 6 and the first thing that changes is mid-corner composure. The factory dampers were tuned for ride compliance over Japanese B-roads and UK dual carriageways – admirable on paper, but they run out of body control the moment kerbs and camber changes enter the picture. The Tarmac Rally valving is built for rapid recovery between compression events, which is exactly what stage tarmac and a poorly surfaced British B-road have in common. Ride height comes down without bottoming the bump stops, the nose stops pushing under trail-brake, and the rear axle starts to rotate predictably on throttle lift. Spring rates are picked for grip on a treaded tyre, not for low-speed compliance, so this is a setup you commit to – not a comfort upgrade that happens to corner well.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally series is a monotube damper built around competition-stage use on sealed surfaces. The body is hard-anodised for corrosion resistance through wet rally seasons, and the piston design prioritises consistent damping force as oil temperature climbs over a long stage. Adjustable damping lets you tune compression and rebound to the surface you’re running on, and ride height is set independently of preload so corner-weighting on a GJ doesn’t compromise spring travel. The kit is rebuildable and revalvable – components that will see kerb strikes and stage debris are designed to be serviced, not binned. It’s a coilover engineered for repeat abuse on a treaded competition tyre, then registered and driven home.

Fitment for the Mazda 6 / ATENZA (GJ1-GL) (2012-2026)

This kit is matched to the GJ-platform Mazda 6 / Atenza saloon and Tourer estate, covering both the pre-facelift GJ1 and the facelift GL run from 2012 through to the end of GJ-generation production in 2026. The Atenza badge applies to the JDM variant of the same chassis. Confirm your chassis code at the build stage to make sure spring rates and damper lengths match your specific trim.
