XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda 6 / ATENZA (GJ1-GL) 2012-2026

The GJ-chassis Mazda 6 was built around a saloon ride brief, and the standard dampers reflect that – soft on initial compression, slow to settle after a mid-corner bump, and quick to load the outside front under hard direction changes. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover is the answer for GJ1-GL owners who treat their 6 as a circuit weapon first and a saloon second, and who want a setup that holds its line when the front-end starts to lean on its Skyactiv-G or Skyactiv-D nose weight.

This is the firm end of the XYZ catalogue for the GJ Mazda 6 – a track-biased build with the spring rates and damping authority to keep a 1,400kg saloon flat through long, loaded corners. It is aimed at owners who already run sticky tyres, who lap regularly, and who have stopped pretending the OEM dampers are coping.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2026 Mazda 6 / ATENZA (GJ1-GL)

Stiffer linear-rate springs and high-pressure monotube damping pull the GJ’s body roll under control, which is the single biggest complaint owners log against the standard car on a circuit. Ride height is adjustable independently of spring preload, so you can drop the saloon for stance and corner-weight without binding the spring or losing damper stroke – critical on a long-wheelbase platform that already runs limited travel up front. The 30-way damping adjuster lets you bias the car for grip on a smooth circuit, then back the rebound off two clicks for a B-road that punishes a hard rear. Front-end response sharpens noticeably on turn-in, and the rear stops squatting under throttle – the two changes a GJ driver will feel inside the first lap.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec sits at the motorsport end of XYZ Racing’s range. Construction is full monotube with a high-pressure gas charge, which keeps damping consistent as oil temperature rises across a 20-minute session – the failure mode that catches twin-tube budget kits out. Spring rates are pitched substantially above road-comfort coilovers and the damper is valved to match, so this is not a kit you fit and then run on factory rates. 30 clicks of combined compression and rebound adjustment cover the working range from circuit to fast road, with pillowball top mounts up front for direct steering feel and camber adjustment for tyre management. Bodies are zinc-plated and corrosion-treated for a UK winter, and the kit is serviceable – dampers can be rebuilt and revalved rather than thrown away when they tire.

Fitment for the Mazda 6 (2012-2026)

Confirmed fitment for the GJ1-GL chassis Mazda 6 / Atenza, covering the 2012 launch car through to current 2026 production. This covers both Skyactiv-G petrol and Skyactiv-D diesel cars in saloon and tourer body styles on the GJ platform.
