XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda 6 (GG1) (NON MPS) 2002-2008

The first-generation Mazda 6 GG1 was Mazda’s sharpest mid-size effort of the 2000s, but two decades on, the factory dampers are tired, the rear multilink is soft on turn-in, and the body sits high enough to ruin the proportions. The Racing Spec coilover is the answer when a GG1 owner has stopped pretending the OEM setup is fine and wants the chassis to actually behave like the car the press used to compare to a BMW.

This is the track-leaning end of the XYZ range – stiffer, less compromising, and aimed at owners running their GG1 on circuit days or fast B-road work rather than motorway commutes. If you’re keeping the non-MPS saloon, estate or hatch as a usable enthusiast platform, this is the kit that earns its keep when the pace picks up.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2008 Mazda 6 (GG1) (NON MPS)

Drop the GG1 onto the Racing Spec and the first thing you feel is the body finally staying flat through a fast direction change – the long-travel OEM struts had this chassis rolling onto its outside shoulder mid-corner, and stiffer spring rates plus a monotube damper kill that motion. Turn-in sharpens because the front axle stops diving under brakes, and the rear multilink – always the GG1’s best asset – finally has a damper firm enough to keep up with it. Independent height adjustment lets you set a sensible drop without losing geometry, and 30-way damping gives you a soft setting for road and a firm one for circuit without breaking out the spanners between runs. Camber-adjustable top mounts on the front struts let you claw back some negative camber on a chassis that runs out of factory adjustment quickly once it’s lowered.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec sits in the harder half of XYZ’s road-and-track ladder. Construction is full monotube with a separated piston and reservoir oil volume, which keeps damping consistent when the fluid heats up across a session. Spring rates are pitched higher than the Super Sport, and the damper is valved to match – closer to a circuit setup than a fast-road one. Thirty clicks of bump-and-rebound adjustment run from compliant-enough-for-broken-tarmac to genuinely stiff, and the pillowball top mounts on the front transmit steering feel directly rather than filtering it through rubber. Ride height is set on a threaded lower body so spring preload stays independent of stance – important on a saloon as long as the GG1, where corner-weighting matters more than people assume.

Fitment for the Mazda 6 (GG1) (2002-2008)

Direct bolt-in fitment for the GG1 chassis non-MPS Mazda 6, covering the 2002 to 2008 production run across saloon, estate and hatch body styles. This kit is specifically NOT for the Mazda 6 MPS – that car uses different front strut hardware and needs its own part number.
