XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 2 (DE) 2008-2014

The DE-generation Mazda 2 was never meant for gravel, but its low kerb weight and short wheelbase make it a quietly brilliant rally base once the suspension stops fighting the surface. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly that conversion – taking a 1.0 tonne supermini and giving it the travel, damping authority, and structural integrity to survive loose-surface stages without packing down on every compression.

Stock DE struts run out of stroke almost instantly on a rutted forest road, and the rear torsion beam transmits every impact straight into the chassis. This kit replaces the compromise with a long-stroke, fully-rebuildable damper designed to keep the contact patch loaded when the surface disappears.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2014 Mazda 2 (DE)

Expect a transformed car on anything that isn’t smooth tarmac. The extended damper body and increased bump travel let the front struts absorb yumps and compressions that would bottom a road-spec coilover in metres. Damping is adjustable across a wide range, so you can soften the kit for muddy, rutted stages and firm it up for hard-packed gravel without pulling the car apart between events. Ride height is set well above standard – this is not a stance product – to clear stage debris and protect the sumps and arms. Springs are matched to the DE’s light front-end mass so the car still rotates on the throttle rather than ploughing wide on entry. Build quality is the other story: the kit is designed to be stripped, cleaned, reseed, and reassembled between rallies rather than binned after one season.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s loose-surface stage rally specification, sitting in the catalogue alongside the Tarmac Rally and Pro Rally kits but built around a fundamentally different brief. Construction uses a long-body monotube damper with substantially more stroke than the road-going Super Sport or Circuit Master kits, paired with progressive springs that resist coil-bind under heavy compression. The damper internals are designed for serviceability, with replaceable seals and shimmable valving so the kit can be re-specced as a crew learns what the car needs. Ride height adjustment is via threaded lower mounts to preserve damper stroke – critical when the surface is constantly dropping away beneath the wheels. Top mounts are reinforced to handle repeated airborne landings, which is what kills most converted road coilovers within a single event.

Fitment for the Mazda 2 (2008-2014)

This kit fits the DE-generation Mazda 2 across the full 2008-2014 production run, covering both the pre-facelift and facelift cars. The DE chassis code applies to all UK-spec petrol and diesel variants in this window. Confirm your build year and trim against the configurator before ordering, as bracket geometry can vary on certain late-build cars.

The Gravel Rally is configured to your build year and any optional spec changes – pick your specification below to lock in the right damper and spring setup for your DE.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
