XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Kia SPORTAGE NQ5 2023-2026

The NQ5 Sportage is a tall, heavy crossover that was never meant to see a circuit – which is exactly the problem the Racing Spec set is built to solve. Strip away the factory comfort tune and you are left with a 1,600kg-plus body that rolls hard on turn-in, squats under power out of slow corners, and runs out of front-end bite long before the Continentals do. This is the coilover for the owner who is taking an NQ5 somewhere it has no business being, and wants the chassis to stop arguing about it.

Racing Spec is the top of the XYZ Racing damper ladder, derived from settings the company developed through direct participation in WTCC. For a crossover platform that sits this high off the ground, that pedigree matters – the geometry change alone from a serious drop fundamentally rewrites how the Sportage carries weight through a corner.

What this coilover does for your 2023-2026 Kia Sportage NQ5

Drop the ride height and the NQ5’s centre of gravity comes down with it, which is the single biggest mechanical change you can make to a tall SUV chassis. Roll stiffens immediately, the front tyres stop being asked to do all the directional work on their outer shoulders, and the steering picks up a weight and honesty the factory setup actively hides. Under braking the nose stays flatter, which keeps the rear axle loaded and means the stability control intervenes later and less abruptly.

For repeated lap sessions the Racing Spec valving holds damper temperatures in check where a fast-road coilover would fade after three or four hot laps. The trade-off is honest – ride quality on broken UK B-roads will be firmer than the showroom car, and that is by design.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is XYZ Racing’s circuit-focused damper, and the settings inside the cartridge come from race data rather than a marketing brief – the company points to direct involvement in WTCC as the development bench. The valving is built for sustained high-load work: the kind of repeated compression-and-rebound cycles that cook a road-tuned damper inside a session.

The platform is also where XYZ Racing’s bespoke programme lives. For cars running aggressive aero, slick tyres, or factory-style racing builds, the company will build custom shock absorbers based on the owner’s circuit, spring rates, and modification list. That is not standard catalogue practice for a sub-£3k coilover and it tells you where this product is aimed – drivers who already know what they want from a damper and need someone to build it.
