XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Hyundai ELANTRA 1996-2000

The J2-generation Elantra is a featherweight by modern standards, and that low kerb weight is exactly why it has quietly become a viable time-attack platform in budget-class racing. The chassis responds well to proper damping, but the standard struts run out of travel and composure long before the front tyres do. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover for the Hyundai Elantra 1996-2000 is the answer when a road-biased setup stops being honest about what the car is being asked to do.

This is the top-tier circuit kit in the XYZ range, developed through direct competition participation rather than a catalogue spec sheet. For an owner running this Elantra in time-attack, sprint, or grass-roots circuit racing, it is the spec that matches the intent.

What this coilover does for your 1996-2000 Hyundai Elantra

Front-end bite is the immediate gain. The J2 Elantra’s MacPherson front leans hard on damper quality under trail-braking, and the Racing Spec calibration keeps the outside front planted instead of washing into understeer at corner entry. Rear rotation becomes a tool you can lean on rather than something to manage around.

Ride height is fully adjustable so you can drop the centre of gravity without compressing what little bump travel the platform has. Damping calibration is tuned for the kerbs, slicks or semi-slicks, and aggressive camber settings that a serious Elantra track build will run. Brake stability under heavy initial pedal load improves noticeably because the dampers actually control the spring rather than chasing it.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec is purpose-developed for circuit competition, with damper settings derived from XYZ Racing’s own participation in series including the WTCC. It is not a re-valved road kit – the internal specification is built around the loads, kerb impacts, and heat cycles of repeated qualifying and race-stint use.

The platform also opens the door to a genuine bespoke route. For cars running heavily upgraded aero, brake, tyre, or powertrain packages – the territory of factory racing entries and A-class build levels – XYZ Racing will produce custom-valved dampers to a specific circuit and a specific car. The customer supplies the build sheet and the track, and the shocks are made to suit. That is a level of service the road-going kits do not offer.

Fitment for the Hyundai Elantra (1996-2000)

This kit is built specifically for the J2-generation Hyundai Elantra, chassis code HY05, covering the 1996 to 2000 production years. It is a direct bolt-in replacement for the factory strut and shock assembly across that range.
