XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Hyundai CUSTIN / CUSTO KU 2021-2026

The KU-platform Custin is a tall, heavy MPV asked to do something its factory damping never planned for – sealed-stage tarmac work with a full cabin and a roof load that shifts the centre of gravity high above the rear axle. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the Hyundai Custin / Custo KU exists to keep that mass settled when the road surface stops being smooth.

This is the rally-bred end of the XYZ coilover range, set up specifically for broken tarmac stages rather than billiard-table circuits. The damping philosophy is impact absorption first, body control second, so the chassis stays planted over compressions, kerbs and mid-corner ruts that would unload a softer fast-road kit.

What this coilover does for your 2021-2026 Hyundai Custin / Custo KU

Drop the Custin onto Tarmac Rally damping and the first thing you feel is the rear axle staying loaded over surface changes that would normally pitch the body. Big single-hit bumps – drain covers, expansion joints, kerb strikes on a tight apex – get absorbed by the damper stroke instead of being telegraphed through the steering column. That keeps the front tyres in contact with the road through the hit, which is where traction and turn-in come from.

For a vehicle this tall, the suppression of body shock matters more than spring rate alone. The Custin’s high seating position amplifies any head-toss, and the Tarmac Rally tune is calibrated to damp the secondary motion that makes occupants reach for the grab handle. Brake stability over uneven surfaces is the other gain – the nose stays level under threshold braking instead of diving and bottoming on the rebound.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is XYZ Racing’s specialist setting for sealed-surface stage work, drawn directly from the brand’s own tarmac rally programme. Its job is to absorb the jolt of a big compression, suppress the shock travelling through the body and put the contact patch back onto the surface as quickly as possible. That priority – impact absorption over outright stiffness – is what separates it from a circuit-focused coilover that assumes a flat track.

Construction is built around the demands of broken-surface running, where damper temperatures climb and seal integrity gets tested by debris and grit. The valving is set from real rally experience, not theoretical numbers, which is why the damping curve behaves predictably when the road throws something unexpected at it. Stability under uneven loading is the whole point: with the chassis composed, the driver can commit to a line the standard suspension wouldn’t allow.
