XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda PRELUDE BB5/6/7/8 1996-2001

The fifth-gen Prelude has always been the thinking driver’s front-driver – ATTS on the SH cars, a long wheelbase, and a chassis that rewards smooth inputs more than brute aggression. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover is the spec you fit when the Prelude BB5/6/7/8 has stopped being a weekend toy and started being a stopwatch tool, with damping settings derived from direct participation in WTCC-level competition.

This is not a fast-road kit you can also take to a trackday. It is a track damper first, and the road compromise is yours to negotiate. For an H22A-powered BB6 being campaigned at Cadwell or a BB5 sorted for time-attack at Anglesey, this is the XYZ rung above Super Sport where the conversation moves from "comfortable on the way home" to "consistent across a 20-lap session".

What this coilover does for your 1996-2001 Honda Prelude BB5/6/7/8

The Prelude’s long-nose, front-heavy layout punishes underdamped fronts under trail-braking, and the Racing Spec’s circuit-derived valving is built precisely for that problem – controlling the dive, settling the platform faster on corner entry, and letting the front Yokohamas do their job before the apex. Spring rates and damping are pitched at race tyre loads, not OEM rubber, so the car will feel firmer and more deliberate on the road – and properly tied-down on a hot lap. ATTS-equipped SH cars in particular benefit from the tighter platform, because the rear-steer trickery only works when the chassis underneath it stops moving around. Ride height comes down where it needs to, geometry stays in its working window for longer, and the car stops running out of front-end halfway through a long right-hander.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec damper is built specifically for track race use, and its settings are not theoretical – they come from XYZ Racing’s direct involvement in series including WTCC. That pedigree shapes everything from the valving curves to the spring rate windows on offer. Where the Top Sport and Super Sport sit on either side of the road/track line, Racing Spec sits firmly on the track side of it: a damper designed to survive heat soak, hold its rate across a session, and tolerate the kinds of kerb strikes that end softer setups. For cars running aggressive upgrades – bigger brakes, slick or semi-slick tyres, aero, stripped interiors, swapped powertrains – XYZ also offers fully custom-made shock absorbers built to the car’s specific package and the circuit it will be raced on, the same way factory race teams and A-class racers spec their dampers.
