XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CRV III 2007-2012

The third-generation CRV was never built with stage rallying in mind – tall, softly sprung, riding on a unibody platform tuned for school runs and motorway cruising. That same height and long-travel geometry, paradoxically, is exactly why it has a small following on gravel: ground clearance is on your side, the K24 is honest, and the Real Time 4WD system will claw forward on surfaces that strand lower cars. What it lacks is a damper that can actually cope with the abuse.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Honda CRV III is the answer to that single problem. Inverted-tube construction, long-stroke shocks and long springs – the spec sheet reads exactly as a loose-surface damper should, because that is the only thing this kit is designed to do.

What this coilover does for your 2007-2012 Honda CRV III

Loose-surface driving punishes a damper in a way tarmac never does. Repeated high-frequency impacts from embedded stones, sudden compressions over crests, and the lateral G-load of a heavy SUV being thrown sideways across a gravel hairpin all conspire to cook a road-spec strut inside a single stage. The inverted tube layout on this kit moves the larger-diameter outer tube to the top, where it carries side load directly into the chassis instead of through the shaft seal – which is the failure mode that ends most rally-spec conversions on a CRV. Long-stroke valving lets the wheel keep tracking the surface over washboard sections rather than skipping, and the long springs maintain rate consistency through the full bump travel a 1.5-tonne 4×4 actually uses on gravel. You get a CRV that stays composed when the road turns to silt, sandstone or snow, with predictable weight transfer when you ask the front to bite into a loose corner.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This is XYZ Racing’s dedicated loose-surface damper, developed specifically for rally and rallycross use – not a fast-road kit with stiffer springs bolted on. The inverted tube construction is the headline engineering decision: it isolates the working shaft from the side loading that destroys conventional struts on rough ground, and it lets the unit run the long stroke that gravel work demands. Spring lengths are extended to match, giving the wheel the travel it needs to absorb high-speed impacts from bouncy, broken surfaces without coil-binding under compression or topping out on rebound. Spring rates across the range have been signed off by an active rally team, with valving developed against the specific demands of sandstone, snow and silt – the three surfaces XYZ Racing calls out by name in the engineering brief. The result is a damper engineered for one job, sized for the kind of G-force a 4WD car generates when it changes direction on gravel.

Fitment for the Honda CRV III (2007-2012)

This kit fits the third-generation Honda CRV, chassis code III, across the full 2007 to 2012 model run. Confirm your registration date sits inside that window before ordering; trim and drivetrain options for this generation are covered by the same damper spec.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
