XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rear FORK) 1989-1991

The EF-generation Civic and CRX sit on double-wishbones front and rear – a layout Honda walked away from in 2001 and which the chassis-tuning world has been mourning ever since. Get the geometry right and an HN12 will still embarrass cars two decades younger through a tight B-road sequence, but the standard ride height, soft springs and tired OE dampers leave most surviving examples wallowing on their bumpstops. The XYZ Racing Street Advanced coilover is the kit that hands that wishbone geometry back to the driver.

Built for fast-road use with the option of an occasional track day, the Street Advanced gives the EF Civic and CRX a proper height range, a single 30-level damping knob per corner, and spring rates chosen to keep the kerb-weight-light HN12 (under a tonne in CRX trim) responsive without going stiff-legged on UK B-roads.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1991 Honda Civic EF CRX Single CAM (rr Fork)

Lowering an EF properly is the single biggest change you can make to how it drives, and the Street Advanced lets you set ride height per corner so a CRX with a lighter rear can be corner-balanced rather than sat nose-up like the factory delivered it. The 30-way damping adjuster gives you a usable spread from "compliant enough for the school run" up to "tied-down for a trackday at Cadwell", controlled from a single knob at the top of each unit. Body roll drops sharply, turn-in sharpens, and the rear of the car finally rotates the way a short-wheelbase Honda is meant to. On the brakes the nose stops diving onto the bumpstops, which keeps the front geometry working through the corner rather than collapsing into it. Reservoir-free monotube construction also means you can run lower profile tyres without the dampers fading on a long session.

About the Street Advanced coilover

The Street Advanced is XYZ Racing’s highest-selling line and the one the factory has spent the longest iterating on, refined through testing with race teams worldwide before being detuned for daily road use. Construction is full-length adjustable – you set ride height by threading the lower mount on the body, not by pre-loading the spring – which preserves shock stroke and stops the kit running out of travel when you drop the car. Each damper carries 720 valving combinations through a single adjuster, so you get the practical benefit of a serious tuning range without the menu-diving of a separately-adjustable bump-and-rebound setup. Spring rates and damping curves are matched to road use first and trackday use second, and the kit is designed to live with British roads rather than glaze over the moment the surface gets broken. For an HN12 owner who wants the car to ride properly on a Sunday morning and still tighten up for a Donington session, this is the right place in the XYZ range to start.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EF CRX Single CAM (rr Fork) (1989-1991)

This kit is built specifically for the HN12 chassis EF Civic and CRX with the single-cam engine and rear fork-type lower arm setup, covering 1989 through 1991 production. Check your rear lower arms before ordering – the fork-mount variant uses a different lower damper interface to the later eye-mount cars, and this kit is the fork-mount version.
