XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rear FORK) 1989-1991

The EF-generation CRX is one of the lightest cars Honda ever rallied, and on loose surface its single-cam D-series and rear fork-mounted damper layout reward a setup that lets the chassis breathe over crests rather than bottoming into them. These XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilovers are built around that requirement: long stroke, long springs, and an inverted strut tube engineered specifically for the punishment of gravel-stage competition.

This is not a fast-road kit fitted to a rally car. It is a dedicated stage-rally damper, with spring rates settled on by XYZ Racing’s own rally team across sandstone, snow and silt.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1991 Honda Civic CRX

Gravel work asks the damper to absorb a constant high-frequency chatter while still controlling a big single hit when the car lands from a yump or clips a hidden rock. The long stroke here gives the EF the wheel travel it needs to keep tyre on ground over broken surface, and the long-spring construction lets the chassis soak chassis vibration without packing down mid-stage. Under hard cornering on loose, the damper has the headroom to take the G-loading without overheating or running out of shaft. The result on a sub-900 kg CRX is a car that stays planted on bumpy entries and lets you carry corner speed instead of waiting for the rear to settle.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing designed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where the road surface is the most aggressive in motorsport. Construction is inverted-tube, chosen because the inverted layout puts the larger-diameter outer body higher up the strut, reducing the risk of stone damage to the seal area and increasing bending stiffness where the strut needs it most. Stroke length is deliberately long, paired with long springs, so the damper can absorb high-speed bouncy road and still bear the G-force loadings that rally driving puts through the chassis on quick direction changes. Every spring rate in the range has been validated by XYZ Racing’s rally team on gravel, not transferred across from a tarmac setup. This is a competition damper rather than a comfort kit.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EF CRX Single CAM rear-fork (1989-1991)

This kit is built for the EF-chassis CRX single-cam variant with the rear fork-mounted damper layout (chassis reference HN12), production years 1989 to 1991. The fork-style rear mount is specific to this generation and the kit’s rear strut is designed around it.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
