XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rear FORK) 1989-1991

The EF-chassis CRX is a 840kg featherweight with a double-wishbone setup that rewards a stiff, properly-damped platform more than almost anything else of its era. Owners running these cars in 2026 are either hillclimbing them, putting them on slicks at Cadwell and Anglesey, or chasing PB laps at Castle Combe – and the factory dampers were tuned for a 1990 commuter, not for a 1.6 single-cam screaming to 7,500rpm on R-compounds.

The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover is the rung above Super Sport in this catalogue, built for serious track and time-attack work on the HN12 platform. It is the spec that XYZ themselves take to WTCC-class racing programmes, and the construction reflects that – this is not a fast-road coilover with stickers on it.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1991 Honda Civic CRX

On a sub-900kg car with rear-fork suspension geometry, ride frequency matters more than outright spring rate, and a properly-valved damper transforms how the EF CRX puts power down out of slow corners. You get a markedly flatter platform under trail-braking, predictable rotation on lift-throttle into hairpins, and the ability to actually use the kerbs at places like Mallory’s Gerards without the inside-rear unloading and pitching the car sideways. Ride height drops cleanly to whatever the tyre and arch gap allows – critical on a CRX where stock rake makes the nose plough. Damping calibration is set up for track temperatures and stiff spring rates, so the car stays composed across repeated heat cycles rather than going soft after three flying laps.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec damper sits at the top of the XYZ Racing range, developed and calibrated through direct involvement in race series including WTCC. Valving and spring choices are derived from competition data rather than catalogue assumptions, which is the practical difference between a coilover that survives a track day and one engineered to be driven at ten-tenths every session. XYZ also offer fully bespoke shock absorbers within this spec – if the CRX is running an aggressive build (welded diff, slick tyres, significant power gain, A-class race prep) you can supply chassis modifications and your home circuit, and the dampers can be specified for that exact use. Construction is consistent with their race-programme hardware: serviceable, rebuildable, and intended for repeated heat cycles rather than treated as a sealed unit.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EF CRX SINGLE CAM (Rr FORK) (1989-1991)

This kit is built specifically for the HN12 chassis with the rear-fork suspension layout fitted to the single-cam EF CRX from 1989 to 1991. The rear-fork geometry differs from the later double-wishbone EG cars, so the application is chassis-specific and not interchangeable with EF9/EE9 or post-92 platforms.

  • HN12 chassis rear-fork suspension setup for hillclimb and sprint
  • 1989-1991 Civic CRX single-cam track-day coilover kit
  • Honda EF CRX adjustable coilovers for slick-tyre and R-compound use

The Racing Spec is the right call if you are running this CRX in anger rather than to shows – configure ride height, spring rate and any bespoke valving requests in the configurator below.

Racing Spec damper is specially made for track race, and all settings have been obtained from direct participation in racing event such as WTCC. In some circumstances, particular custom-made shock absorbers are available for those cars that have aggressive upgrades like factory’s racing vehicles or A-class racing cars etc…You may provide us with detailed info on all upgraded parts in your car and what circuit you will run, and we are able to make custom shock absorbers for your personal car.
