XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda ACCORD CR 2013-2017

The ninth-gen Accord CR is a bigger, heavier saloon than the chassis most coilover catalogues are built around, and that mass is the thing a serious track damper has to answer for. XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec was developed inside actual race programmes – WTCC among them – so the valving philosophy here is written for repeat lap sessions on a car that weighs the wrong side of 1,500 kg, not for a hot hatch.

For an Accord CR being prepped for time attack, the brief is straightforward: kill the long-travel float of the OE setup, plant the front contact patch under trail-braking into a slow corner, and stop the rear from going light over crests. Racing Spec is the kit XYZ point at that brief.

What this coilover does for your 2013-2017 Honda Accord CR

The Accord CR’s stock suspension is tuned for executive ride quality, which on a circuit translates to body roll the front Michelins can’t keep up with and a rear axle that runs out of damping authority halfway through a 20-minute session. Racing Spec replaces that with a setup whose damping curves were sorted in live race conditions, so the car stops diving on the brakes, stops squatting out of low-speed corners, and stops loading the outside front tyre past its slip-angle peak. Ride height comes down enough to drop the roll centre and tighten turn-in response without killing geometry, and the spring/damper match means a competently driven CR will use all four tyres rather than overworking the fronts. The on-road consequence – if you drive one home from a track day – is a saloon that feels considerably more alert through B-road direction changes, with the steering loading up properly off-centre.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is XYZ’s circuit-only specification, and the company is explicit that the damping settings were derived from direct race participation, including World Touring Car Championship campaigns. That pedigree matters because WTCC cars are heavy front-driven saloons fighting the same physics an Accord fights – front-axle load transfer, brake-release rotation, kerb behaviour – and a damper that works there has been sorted against the right problem set. The kit ships with adjustment characteristics chosen for track work rather than fast-road compromise, which is why XYZ separate it from their Super Sport and Top Sport lines. There is also a custom-build route on offer: if the car is running aggressive aero, slick tyres, or factory-style A-class race upgrades, XYZ will valve and rate shock absorbers to the specific car, the specific tyre, and the specific circuit when buyers supply that information. For an Accord built to chase lap times rather than meet a regs sheet, that bespoke channel is the route to extract everything the chassis has.

Fitment for the Honda Accord CR (2013-2017)

This kit is built specifically for the CR-chassis Accord saloon produced from 2013 to 2017 – the ninth-generation car sold across UK, US and JDM markets. Chassis-code matching matters because the CR’s front strut and rear multi-link geometry are distinct from the earlier CU and the later CV, and ride-height brackets and lower-mount hardware are not interchangeable across those generations.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
