XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Ford FOCUS (USA) φ45.5 (with rear top mount) 2000-2005

The North American first-generation Focus arrived with a rear suspension quietly reworked from the European Control Blade set-up that made the badge famous, trading away some of that reputed body control for cost. On a sealed tarmac stage, where a US-spec Focus needs to absorb compressions, camber changes and mid-corner ridges at speed without the rear axle stepping out of line, that shortfall shows up fast.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover puts that control back in the driver’s hands. Damping and ride height are set specifically for sealed-stage tarmac work, where a settled contact patch and predictable body movement over a broken surface matter more than raw stiffness.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2005 Ford Focus (USA)

Across a rally stage the 45.5mm damper body absorbs sharp compressions – jumps, camber breaks, mid-corner bumps – without punching that jolt straight into the chassis, so the tyre stays loaded and gripping instead of skipping over the surface. That body control keeps the rear of the Focus settled under trail-braking into tighter stage corners, rather than stepping wide the way the standard US-spec rear end tends to under load. Ride height adjustment lets you set stage-specific ground clearance without losing the geometry the sealed-stage use case needs, and the rear top mount included in the kit replaces the tired factory unit so the whole rear corner works as one calibrated assembly rather than a new damper bolted to an old mount. The result on this Focus is a car that holds its line over repeated stage bumps instead of pattering and losing traction each time the surface breaks up.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally coilover around sealed-stage tarmac use, where the surface looks smooth but is littered with the compressions, ridges and camber changes that catch out a road-biased damper. The valving absorbs a hard hit – a pothole repair, a kerb strike, a heave in the tarmac – without that impact transmitting straight through the body, which is what keeps the tyre loaded and generating traction through the moment of impact rather than skipping free of the surface. That control over body movement is what keeps a car settled through a stage rather than unsettled after every bump, and it’s the difference between a rally-specific set-up and a generic fast-road coilover. The damping settings come directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme rather than a lab-bench guess, so the compression and rebound balance reflects what has actually worked at stage speed. For this Focus, the 45.5mm damper body and rear top mount are supplied as a matched set, so spring rate, damping and rear mounting geometry all work together instead of being pieced together from mismatched parts.

Fitment for the Ford Focus (USA) (2000-2005)

This kit is built for the North American-market first-generation Ford Focus, chassis code USA, across the 2000 to 2005 model years. It’s specified around the US Focus’s own rear suspension layout rather than the European Control Blade car, and the kit includes the rear top mount, so the rear corner arrives as a complete, matched replacement rather than a damper-only swap.
