XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Chevrolet CORVETTE C5/C6 1997-2013

The C5 and C6 Corvette were never built to fly over a gravel stage, but plenty of owners are now stripping them, caging them, and pointing them at loose surfaces – and that is exactly the brief this damper was developed against. Long-travel, long-spring, inverted-strut suspension for a 1997-2013 Corvette is a niche request, and the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is the part that takes the platform seriously.

A C5 or C6 on tarmac is a torsion-beam-stiff, transaxle-balanced GT with a long wheelbase and a wide rear track. Take it onto sandstone, snow, or silt and the problems change: the chassis needs to absorb a beating, the wheels need to stay loaded, and the damper needs to survive landings that no road-spec strut was ever designed for.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2013 Chevrolet Corvette C5/C6

The inverted-tube layout puts the thicker, stiffer body at the top of the strut, where bending loads from a sideways landing or a kerb-strike on a stage are highest. That matters on a Corvette in particular: the transaxle layout already pushes weight rearward, so the front axle works hard under braking into loose-surface corners, and an inverted strut resists deflection under that side-load far better than a conventional damper. Long stroke means the wheel keeps reaching for the ground when the surface drops away mid-corner. Long springs mean the rates can stay low enough to soak up the chop without the chassis bottoming on the bump-stops. The result on a stage Corvette is a car that stays planted over washboard, doesn’t pogo on jumps, and gives the driver something to lean on when the road surface stops being a road.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This is a damper built specifically for rally and rallycross use – the most punishing road conditions XYZ Racing develops for. The inverted-tube construction is the headline: it’s adopted because gravel stages throw everything at the strut, from sandstone to snow to silt, and a conventional upright damper body would flex and lose its seal under repeat hits. The long stroke and long spring are paired deliberately – the stroke gives the wheel room to travel without running out of damping, and the longer spring allows softer rates to be used without coil-bind. XYZ rate the assembly to absorb chassis vibration on broken ground, take repeated hits from high-speed bouncy surfaces, and carry serious lateral G-force when the car is loaded into a turn. The spring rate options on this series are set by XYZ Racing’s own rally programme, not transposed from a tarmac catalogue.

Fitment for the Chevrolet CORVETTE (1997-2013)

Engineered for the C5 and C6 generations of Corvette, chassis code CH08, covering model years 1997 through 2013. This is the rally-spec damper in the range – if you’re building for tarmac or circuit, that’s a different part within the XYZ catalogue.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
