XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW X5 G05 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) 2018-2026

The G05 X5 is an unusual donor for a drift build, and that is precisely why this kit exists. Strip the factory air suspension out of the steel-sprung NON AIR variant and you are left with a 2.1-tonne SUV on a long wheelbase, permanent xDrive, and a centre of gravity that wants to roll long before it wants to slide. The XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover is the chassis surgery that turns that liability into a usable rear-bias platform.

For anyone running a G05 in competitive drifting – whether that is a converted xDrive50i making silly numbers or a diesel-swap exhibition car – the brief is the same: kill body roll, plant the front tyres on initiation, and let the rear stay loose and predictable through transition. That is the job this coilover was designed for, and it is the only XYZ tune in the range built specifically for it.

What this coilover does for your 2018-2026 Bmw X5 G05 4WD (NON AIR Strut)

The first thing you feel after fitting is the loss of body roll on initiation. With the ride height dropped and the bump stroke set properly, weight transfers cleanly to the outside front instead of leaning through a soft factory damper – so the front tyres bite the moment you flick the wheel. The rear stays composed at the angle you ask for rather than scrubbing wide on its own bushings.

High-speed transitions are where the X5’s mass normally punishes you. The Drift Spec damping is calibrated to settle that mass quickly between flicks, so the chassis is ready for the next input instead of still recovering from the last one. On a heavy 4WD platform, that recovery speed is the difference between holding a line and washing out. Lowering the centre of gravity also takes the lurching, top-heavy feel out of the G05 and replaces it with something far closer to a saloon-car attitude.

About the Drift Spec coilover

The Drift Spec is a dedicated competitive-drifting tune, not a re-badged track coilover. The damper geometry and valving are built around stabilising the body during high-speed cornering at angle – the moment a drift car is most vulnerable to a sudden weight shift. That stability is what lets the driver carry a cleaner, more committed angle through long sweepers rather than constantly correcting.

Ride-height adjustment is paired with a properly set bump stroke, which matters more on drift cars than almost any other discipline – too little stroke and the chassis hits the bump stops mid-transition, too much and it never settles. XYZ have calibrated this kit so that once dropped to a sensible competition height, the bump stroke is in the window where controllability is at its peak.

The result is a coilover engineered to a single use-case rather than a compromise across road and circuit. For a drift-spec G05, that focus is the point.

Fitment for the Bmw X5 G05 (2018-2026)

This kit fits the G05-generation BMW X5 in 4WD configuration on the NON AIR STRUT chassis only – the steel-sprung variant, chassis code BM111, model years 2018 to 2026. It will not fit cars factory-equipped with the air suspension system. Confirm your car is the steel-strut variant before ordering.

This is built for one job and built well – configure your spec below.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
  • Iron top mountIronIRONIron upper mount — a heavy-duty housing built to take sustained load where a stronger top mount is required.
