XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — BMW X5 E70 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) 2007-2013

The E70 X5 carries its mass high and far forward of the front axle, and the non-air-strut cars feel it most – the steel-sprung variants ride firmer than their air-suspended siblings but still lean heavily on damper control once you start carrying speed into a corner. The Top Sport coilover is built around that reality: holding two-plus tonnes of SUV flat enough to use the front tyres properly, without turning the school run into a chiropractic appointment.

For an owner who tracks a 4.8is or an xDrive35d on the occasional Bedford or Cadwell day and still uses the car as the family wagon during the week, this is the spec that earns its keep. Spring rates are pitched roughly 2 kg/mm above the OE setting and damping is wound up 30 to 50% over a street kit, which is enough to settle the body roll the E70 is famous for without making the cabin unliveable on a B-road.

What this coilover does for your 2007-2013 Bmw X5 E70 4WD (NON AIR STRUT)

Body control is the obvious gain. The E70’s height and bonnet length mean weight transfer happens slowly and then all at once – the Top Sport’s stiffer rates and uprated damping shorten that transition, so the front axle loads progressively and the nose stops diving when you brake from motorway speed into a roundabout. Mid-corner the chassis stays composed enough that the rear-biased xDrive system can actually do its job rather than reacting to a body that’s still moving.

Ride-height adjustment lets you drop the truck out of its factory 4×4 stance for a more planted look and a useful drop in roll centre, while preload and damping settings give you the room to firm things up before a track day and back them off for the commute. Tyre contact over broken Tarmac noticeably improves – the firmer setup absorbs sharp impacts rather than pattering across them, so traction under power and braking confidence both step up.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport is XYZ Racing’s road-and-track kit, drawn directly from the settings the company runs on its own racing programmes and then softened just enough for street use. Spring rates sit around 2 kg/mm above a typical street coilover and damping is set 30 to 50% firmer, the brief being to absorb a bad expansion joint or a kerb strike without unsettling the body. The result is a damper that suppresses chassis movement quickly, increases tyre traction over uneven surfaces, and keeps the vehicle stable enough to lean on properly when you’re driving hard.

Construction is monotube with adjustable damping and adjustable ride height, so spring preload and corner balance can be set independently of where the car sits. The Top Sport line is engineered for aggressive driving and track-day use, which on a heavy SUV like the X5 translates to repeated heavy-braking zones and long, loaded corners without the damper fade you get from a softer street kit.

Fitment for the Bmw X5 (2007-2013)

This kit is built for the E70 X5 in its 4WD, non-air-strut configuration – chassis reference BM69-1-1, covering the 2007 to 2013 production run. It is not for cars fitted with the optional rear air suspension; check your boot floor and the rear of the chassis before ordering if you’re unsure.
